Great News And Huge File Release Coming! Yes It's Exciting!

Comments

I Greatly appreciate all of your hard work and all of your effort as I for one have Always wanted to learn about tubes since I was a child messing with radios and I hit the jack pot here! Thank you Paul so very much for allowing me to be a part of this, learning stuff that I had never learned in electronics classes. Thank you again.

george

Maybe making files available per device, rather than per video would be possible? I am thinking, for example, that I'd like to build an Ultra Probe, and there are files for different pieces of it across a number of different videos. It's a little difficult to even know exactly what to ask for (I just came back to this Patreon after having not renewed it for a number of months when it lost my old credit card). To get the latest pieces, if you send the files over a few months with allowing for asking for one video per month, it makes it also a bit hard to plan things and ask for materials. I also think it might be nice to have at least a BOM on the different projects available so that it's possible to get parts even if it takes a while to get started on specific projects. It'd be easier to put together an order to Mouser or Digikey with things already there. Thanks for keeping up all this work! It's been a pleasure to learn from you over the years, and, I did indeed download a lot of your old files before, but, I also stayed on Patreon for a while each time and certainly watched all the videos and such with all that. I'm glad if what I can give supports the great work that you do! I miss the old setup, but, then, you obviously have mouths and project space to feed, and that's just how things are.

Michael Shor

In the event you are considering requests for build from scratch circuits, I have a selfish request. ;) How about a vacuum tube FM receiver (preferably with an independent oscillator tube/circuit)? Thanks for all the cool stuff Paul, my favorite technology channel.

Patrick

Thanks Paul.

Jim MacLean

I fall into the category of a former long time (years) Patreon, then I took a break for several months, now I'm back. :-)

Devin82m

Paul, I would absolutely love to see a tube based AM Transmitter. I'm a pretty good builder but I lack much of the theory needed to make something with good sound quality. Thanks for a great channel!

Mike Kephart

Thanks Paul, ive been here from almost when you started on Patreon and will never regret supporting you!

Jacques

No worries

John Parker

this is great all the valuable information

Chris chwaz

Hi Pau,l sounds good can't wait to get started. This will help me get a refresh on electronics! Thank you much!

FRANCIS G HARRIS

Hi Paul, as a long term patreon of your channel I just want to let you know that I really appreciate your time and efforts put into all the great designs and all the information you share with us. Just so that you know ,….. 👍🏼

Hans Braam

The news is certainly exciting for me! I'm very appreciative of every video you make and the projects you share with us all. The time committed to this channel is nothing but craziness but I'm so thankful you are so passionate about Electronics. Again a big thankyou from me for all your hard work!...I'm just finishing the probe, i hope to be able to work out how to post photos on the forum and show it to you all! Cheers, Darren, Tasmania, Australia.

darren bird

Thank You for your kind feedback Chae!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Hey, Paul, I'm an electrical engineering student going into my senior year. Your channel is my main source of actionable info, as school tends to languish in theory ninety percent of the time. I can't thank you enough! Besides that, information coming from the pros, such as yourself, must be preserved and passed on. I've got a circuits professor that has a literal bookcase full of self designed circuits, problems, theory,...you name it. This stuff is not only cool, but vital for the next generations to know how this insane stuff works. Otherwise, the alternative ain't too bright. Pun intended. Thanks again, Paul. Really appreciate you!

Chae Balistreri

Thank you, Paul! I mainly repair musical amps, PAs & do guitar setups. Mesa Boogie always gets a bad wrap, from other techs I know, because they say the amps are physically hard to work on & Mesa crams too much into them. I like them because of those challenges. Would dig seeing you rip into one, like a model Mark 5 or 7.

gunsofsteele

Thank you John, this really helps make it easy to understand!

Casey

This is a great release Paul! Can't wait to see what comes next!!! (That IS a huge endeavor!!)

Shawn Sauerwine

There are so many AM Band transmitter out their, I don't see doing a project like that.

Ted Mieske

Aloha Casey, I use my iPhone for just about everything for Patreon. For a mobile phone, this is what I do: Open the Patreon app > along the bottom of the app there's 5 possible selections: From Left to Right: Home > Chats > Video Play > Bell (notifications) > Search (Find Creators). You want to select the Chats (Community). In the upper Right hand corner is an Envelope Icon. Select that (Direct messages). If you don't have a history of DM with content creators, Select the + sign and search for Mr Carlsons Lab. A new message will be created To: Mr. Carlsons Lab. Just like an e-mail. Compose your message. in the box at the Bottom of the screen and then send. For a PC or laptop: Open the app > on the left side select community > Direct Messages > Search or Start New Conversation, i.e. Mr. Carlson's Lab > compose your message on right side bottom and select Send. Replies would be found in the same place you sent your original message.

John Parker

Please do make a "Bio" video; That would be fascinating. I'm sure many of us would like to know how you acquired so much electronics knowledge. (The community college electronics programs do not cover any of what you are teaching; they are all based around digital circuits and computer programming.)

Tony Vassil

Paul, can you send me or tell me on correct grounding on an old receiver with a 3 prong power cord replacing the 2 prong. Ty!

Jeff K

Please do design a 1L6 replacement. That would be a great boon to many of us antique radio collector!

Rick Walton

Thanks for your input Bob. One day I may do a Bio video.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Paul, it ought to be easier for you to store the file sets (as ZIP files or equal?) and simply send links to *those* files rather than sending the actual files themselves. You could put the files on "the cloud" and let only your Patrons download them. Maybe a Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar account? I agree with Richard Goebel that you should *first* take care of your own health & get "proper" sleep first! Also, do you still have a "day job" or are you retired from that and now spending most, if not all, of your time working on Patreon & YouTube?

Bob Vines

Thanks Claude!

Mr Carlson's Lab

OH HELL YES!!! Any time a tech has to spend time working on something or a series of projects that requires research, testing, programming that is not done right in front of the customer you will some questions and some grumbling why it is taking so long. But a word of advise is take care. Eat well and get proper sleep.

Richard Goebel

Hello Paul! My first comment since subscribing to Patreon. My name is Claude and I am calling from Moncton, NB Canada. Channel is awesome stuff!! Thanks!

Claude Chiasson

Can't wait! Always good news from Mr. Carlson.

Gervasio Gurgel do Amaral Neto

Cool! Thanks, Paul. Thankfully there are many more decent people in the world than bad.

Robert Calk Jr.

Thanks Tim, and thanks for being a top Tier member!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Excited:))

Harm Tuntler

Looking forward to the files and the videos. Always learning more from you!

Tim

Looking forward to everything!

Michael Moran

Hi Richard. Attachments have never been automatically sent, so nothing changes there. Just PM me with the attachment request (which would include the video number you would like the attachments from), and they are sent directly to your email.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Hey Paul, appreciate how you're still eager to share your vast knowledge and experience despite being faced with those who are effectively stealing from you. Just to clarify, will patreons be getting ongoing schematics automatically emailed to them providing they meet the billing cycle requirement or do I need to send a request if ever I'm interested in a set?

Richard Hicks

What I would like to see is a short video on how to PM you in Patreon so I can request files. Sending a PM for file requests is not clear to me on the Patreon site.

Casey

I understand the file harvesting problem. W

Casey

Thank you! Very generous indeed.

Alan Wood

The should be in the Canadian Library of Congress

Matthew Cusack

A 1L6 tube would be wonderful Thank you!

Kenny Fidler

Thanks for your input Michael!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Yes, you are correct.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Any possibility of designing circuits to match transistors and mosfets?

Michael Walker

Super excited and looking forward to all the new vids and projects! One thing I'm not clear about though, are you saying that you no longer will atach files to vids but will email them instead? (That's fine with me but I just wanted to make sure I understood correctly).

Chip

It would be fun to get back on 75M again! Thanks for being a top Tier member Don!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks John, and thanks for being a top Tier member too!

Mr Carlson's Lab

I think its really cool what you do. as a long time member. its Is sad to see others that can not respect what you have asked us to do as a community, regarding your ideas and projects.

Jonathan Hughes

Super excited to see what you have in there. And to build some!

Aaron Brinkman

really great work you do. I do electronic since I was aroung 8 year old at thet time with the old KOSMOS system, first patent with 13 yr, so there are people out also do electronic with passion since many many decades. I also know how much work it is to prepare videos (I also did tv production for education public channel BR3), Always had respect for high voltage stuff so I like the way you handle this with tubes etc. I always was in ICs, transistors since then etc.

Dipl. Ing. Rolf-Dieter Klein

Paul: Wouldn’t it be cool to publish a simple transmitter and receiver and get a bunch of your followers licensed as hams and create a “‘Mr Carlson Net”. Hi Hi.

Donald Kash

Yes

Barry Edwards

Your test equipment circuits help me develop my circuits. So really, harvesting your brain power and expertise is the real fruit and not the fodder of bottom feeder schematic thieves.

Steve Foudray

Thankyou Josef!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Ja jsem snad nejstarsimezi Vamamneje81 let,i kdyz neumim dobre anglicky a musim si u videi zapinat titulky tak aj tak to vo pan o co pan PAUL PRO NAS DELA TAK TO SE NEDA ZAPLATIT ANI ZLATEM,PROTO MU PATRI MUJ SRDECNY VDEK.....

Jozef Harang

Yes, a simple request via PM is all thats needed. There is no system in place to auto send to legacy Patrons.

Mr Carlson's Lab

I am very excited, love all of your videos and definitely want to build some of your test gear. Very exciting news and I can't wait. Thanks for all that you do for us.

Michael Miller

I would love to see you put together a playlist of all your inventions. I know that they are available in your list of video releases. But you have so many videos, that it is difficult to search for them. Just a thought. Thank you for sharing all you do.

Tom Hogan

Also, are the file emails automatically sent to legacy users or do we have to request them every video.?

Jason Neubold

I tapped the heart thingy. But I'm afraid it just doesn't convey the level of excitement and gratitude I have for you and what you give to this community

Jason Neubold

I am really excited and looking forward to seeing your release!

Tom Hogan

Paul, I really appreciate your talent and efforts . Thank you for everything you've done.

Donald Niles

The shoes burned off three towns back!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks for sharing your story, and for being a top Tier Patron too!

Mr Carlson's Lab

VERY EXCITED!!! Sucks that you have to go to the e-mail model to keep out the fraudsters. 73's!

Benjamin Hall

Always a pleasure when I see a new video from you. I have learned so much a text book couldn't come close to convey the info your willingly to give. Looking forward to the files that helped you along the way.

John Ward

This is a very educational service. I appreciate the delayed billing trial period, however, to alleviate confusion, bill people when they sign up. The free videos are educational enough to know what you're getting and the cost is really affordable. I am a recent add and it was challenging to find out the protocols here. An automated email with rules and expectations vis-a-vis access would be nice. I would also be in favor of an annual subscription. This alleviates the "grab, run, cancel" folks who are less than generous. Nice job on these videos. Looking forward to going through all the content, past and future. Well done!

Richard Hoynes

Hell yeah! No brakes on the hype train

Chris

Release away! The u tubes I watch constantly are yours, "Buy it fix it", "Techmoan". All different takes on electronics. I learn SO MUCH from you folks.

Tom Harris

Thank you for all your hard work. I really appreciate all the energy you put into providing the design details of your inventions. I have built a good number of them so far and am in the process of rounding up parts for several other ones. I really enjoyed your recent restoration of the Sony Radio on YouTube which was on-par with your other outstanding videos. I thought it was fantastic how you presented the overall approach along with providing the fine details of the steps you followed. Thank again for all you do!

Rob

Very much looking forward to this, thanks Mr. C.

Stephen Gibson

I was worried about that kind of stuff happening . People joining just to get a certain file of Mr C,s and then leaving patreon . Some people are shamless. Very sad . Looking forward to seeing the releases .:)

TWISTED1

Thank you look forward to files done burn yourself out rest a little

John Kiernan

Thanks for the update Paul. It always sad to hear that people are so dishonest. plans/circuits etc are supposedly a fringe benefit to support not the main reason. I am sure I speak for many when I say that the reason I am here is to give recognition for the knowledge that you share in a more tangible way than a thumbs up. I'm looking forward to some of the projects you showcased in January. I've recently been giving old radios a new lease of life with Bluetooth, and I'm very much looking forward to improving those designs going forward, armed with the insights and advice that I am sure I'll gain from watching your examples. Keep up the good work.

Neil Horlock

Great news! Looking forward to more files, I have finally got all of the required parts for both the Ultra probe as well as the Ultra Probe base unit and are about to start building the boards and assembling the units.

Glenn Kingdon

I allways look forward to your video's! Keep it up! Thank you! I started watching during 2020. I know if i want to know the proper way to do something i just watch your videos!:)

Mark A Gordon

1L6 plug-in equivalent or an actual vacuum tube? For a bluetooth to AM transmitter, I just took one of those cheap bluetooth headphone adapters they sell on Amazon and connected it to a small AM BCB transmitter I made on a piece of proto board. The transmitter was a simple circuit of a xtal osc circuit driving a class-A amp made from a couple 2n2222s. I tried to modulate the power amp directly from the bluetooth device, but ended up sticking in an opamp because I did not get a high enough modulation index doing it directly to satisfy the radio I was trying to drive. It took me an embarrassing three or four hours to get it working, and then a couple more to put it in a box. When I was a kid I made a 12BE6 transmitter from the parts I scavenged from an AA5 receiver and I don't think it took me as long to finish as the transistor one did. If I were to do it again, I would use all 3904s or MOSFETs.

KC

Very exciting! Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Manuel Herrera

Since you started building the new lab, I've been applying the practice I got from building your earlier projects to making synth modules from MFOS, YuSynth, Hagiwo, Electric Druid, etc. from scratch using surface mount components. Perhaps as a video between builds you can take an in-depth look at Vactrols.

Rob Clark

Mr C single handedly revolutionized my approaches to electronics years ago.

James George

You are definitely as hardcore as I have ever run across. Although I always worry about you staying healthy and not working yourself to death. So I will say once again, be careful, we like you and want to keep you around.

Leonard Peters

Thank you for all of the amazing information and enthusiasm that you share - oh yes, you are the most hardcore electronics person I know :-) Very happy to have longer intervals between your content though, I'd hate for you to wreck yourself through lack of sleep - I speak as a very wrecked shift worker for over 30 years!

Ross Thompson

Thanks Gloria, and Thanks for being a top Tier member!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks for your kind feedback Larry!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Great news. I look forward to the files and knowledge download. Thank you!

Sheldon Butler

Thank you, Thank you, what great news. I do have to say I was a little scared as I was a Patreon member to another person, and they burn out and they just disappeared and never heard again. This has happen to me on YouTube and Patreon. I really love your work and trying to keep the hobbie alive. You are living my dream and I am so excited that you are my neighbor to my North and hearing my local radio station on you video. SWL started with me in my crib as I heard my Dad playing with his SW radio. I was lucky to have friends like you over the years. So again Thank you for this video.

Larry { N7LUF }

Exciting News, Can't wait. Thank you!

Alan

As always cannot wait to see all your next videos

Gloria Jill Sydor

Thank You for your kind Feedback Mark, and for being a top Tier member!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Awesome cannot wait to see the files. I've already built a few of your projects, and currently working on the ultra probe its almost ready. The curve tracer works perfectly in a 50$ 20mhz Japanese scope i purchased from a friend. i also built a variac isolation power

Gloria Jill Sydor

Ever since I found you on YouTube I've enjoyed your tube restoration projects. Your tester projects are top notch and some are in the making stage. Thank you for the education you have given this 76 year old dude. Best wishes and Prayers for you.

Mark Urban

Thanks Steve! I may in the future.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks John, and thanks for being a top Tier member too!

Mr Carlson's Lab

How exciting! Can't wait.

Terry Lindsey

Paul, thanks again for all of your great work and hard work. I would love to see some low plate voltage tube receiver circuits for AM and SW (and possibly ham bands) frequencies. If you have already prepared such circuits and I have missed them, I apologize. I also have a Philco console style radio model 39-36 that I would like to restore. Have you previously prepared a restoration video on this model and if not is there any possibility that you might prepare such a video. Again, thanks for all of your effort.

Steven Munts

Hi Mr. Paul, I'm back watching your awesome contents, from months of pause. I'm a continuosly $2 member from the very end of 2017. I hope I can download some of your projects, also because I often built first-release of projects, and never the last (coolest) updated version. Thanks for all your work and the passion you radiate! \,,/_

Enrico Trudu

Sounds like fun (for us! :-) A broader footprint might entice more into building projects, where the knowledge really begins to grow.

Jim Edmondson

Aloha Paul, Mahalo Nui Loa for sharing your thoughts and passion! It’s really exciting to hear and I look forward to hearing more and traveling with you on this journey!

John Parker

You're a Savage bro. I enjoy it. I never sleep either. Discipline sleep only.

Jason Weiser

Thanks James, and thanks for being a top Tier member!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks for your kind comment Clint, and for being a top Tier member as well.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thank You Bill for your kind feedback, and for being a top Tier member! It's the fellas like you that keep me doing this.

Mr Carlson's Lab

You're right Paul - nobody is more hardcore than you are about electronics! Please know that I am very grateful for your efforts to preserve some of the "old stuff" and teaching people how to repair and service these items - and also understand HOW they work!

Bill Hanks

This is awesome news Paul! Can't wait to see them ! Thank You! :)

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

Good to know!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Oh Always. Always looking for something new.

David Kuhn

Great! You will have a lot more to build soon :^)

Mr Carlson's Lab

Love every minute of it, emensly appreciate all the work. Getting close to building the cap tester. The the sift, then...

Solder Brothers

My pleasure!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Amazing - thanks!!

Daniel Heidebrecht

So what about the rest of the video you are not paying attention to? Are you not excited about the upcoming file releases?

Mr Carlson's Lab

I understand why you did it, File Harvesting and then quite. I don't see that as "Exciting news for us" lol, but I do understand it.

David Kuhn

You bet, its as easy as a PM.

Mr Carlson's Lab

You're very welcome Bill.

Mr Carlson's Lab

So this means the prints already on Patrion are or will no longer be available unless we ask for them? So, if I go back to a project from two years ago, and decide to build it, I now have to ask for all the prints for that project?

David Kuhn

My Pleasure! And thanks for being a top Tier member Jason!

Mr Carlson's Lab

You're there!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thank you Paul!

Bill Swaim

Really exciting news. This will be very useful for beginners like me.

Yousuf Aboobaker Sait

How long do you have to be a patreon member to be considered legacy?

RS Electron

Waiting patiently, but just barely. Thanks for all the hard work Mr. Carlson.

Jason Winsett

Paul as always Thank You for all that you do with your time and energy. I hate I didn’t know you 25 years ago.

Clint Allsopp

This is really good news for me. More learning tools and knowledge.
