New script automation!
Added 2016-12-21 21:30:42 +0000 UTCThanks to all our Patrons, I was able to work with Andrew to shoot a side video on our in-house automated backup and compression routines that we built recently. This was a HUGE challenge for the site -- we were producing something like half a TB per month of data, and that meant burning through drives at an expensive pace.
And, of course, it sucks to delete that content; those shots take time (and money -- I'm paying Andrew, of course) to produce, so to just delete them after the final cut is a little painful. Instead, in order to keep everything, we went with an automated Powershell script to compress the video files, then a robocopy to move them to the Synology NAS that we use.
Really fun stuff. I love this kind of work. The benchmarking, the analysis -- that's all important to do, but this kind of 'crisis management' (running out of space) is genuinely a fun challenge. I look forward to playing around with NVENC options in the near future, since Handbrake is killing us with long processing times.

In behind the scenes news, we will be working on an Xmas build starting today (a gift for someone), but will have to source all the parts from GN lab scrap, since there's not really enough time left to order. We'll probably have to make a custom liquid cooler, too... but we'll see. Find out on the 24th & 25th!
