Police Challenge

The city was loud tonight.

Not in the usual way — not just the hum of traffic or the bark of drunks slouching out of neon-lit dive bars. This was the kind of loud that crackled underneath your skin. Sirens echoed off the glass bones of skyscrapers, and camera drones buzzed low like mechanical insects searching for a scent of guilt.

Carla had always danced at the edge of chaos. The fur coat. The chrome bodysuit. The photos left like echoes of nights she barely remembered and didn't care to explain. Her life had been one long sprint through smoke, lights, and adrenaline. In a city like this, for someone like her, rules were optional.

Until tonight.

The red-and-blue lights stung her eyes. The cuffs were too tight, but she didn’t flinch. She tilted her head as the officer guided her toward the cruiser — calm, detached. Her makeup was smeared, but her expression was unreadable, a mask crafted from too many nights of pretending nothing mattered.

In truth, she didn’t expect justice.

She expected recognition.

“You think this is new to me?” she said quietly as the back door opened. “I’ve walked darker alleys than this.”

The officer said nothing. Just stared at the polaroids on the hood of the car. Evidence, they called it. But to Carla, it was just another set of memories, fragmented and blurred like her whole past.

This wasn’t about crime.

This was about the weight of a life where no one said no — until the world did.
The city didn’t forget. Not forever.

The sky above blinked with satellite lights and the blinking red eyes of security cams.
Carla looked up at them and smiled faintly.

Her world was shifting.
And for the first time in years... so was the balance.
