My Cage "Neo-Classic" 06/08/2015

QOTD: Do you know any kids whose parents told them about their divorce or were you a kid who was told by their parents that they were getting divorced? How'd it go?

Asking for a friend.

I still remember that day even though it was almost 50 years ago. Daddy came to get us from Grandma's house after their vacation. I ran into the house and saw Grandma crying. My aunt dragged me outside for a surprise picnic where my uncle taught me to eat chiles. Daddy took us home and after putting my little sister to bed, both he and Mommy sat me down to explain their split. They focused on how much they loved us and how I had to be a good girl and help my sister get through it. It was confusing and I know I was sad. Our parents put their differences aside to make sure we were ok. I didn’t see it then but over the years it was clear the divorce was for the best. For all that though, the biggest “tragedy” that day was that while they were talking to me, another uncle threw out my can of Tree Sweet juice. After 50 years, I’m still mad about that juice!

I set my niece and nephew down to tell them why their aunt hadn't come to visit with me this time. I explained the situation as best I could, I feel I was fair about explaining both sides, hers and mine, the end result being that she decided to leave. I asked them, "So, what do you think?" After just a few seconds, my nephew replied, "Well I think she's just stupid." I love that kid.
