I started working on a life cycle mini in June. The premise being multiple versions of the same creature at different life stages. The tarrasque was chosen for this first run.
Originally I had an adult stage, but it didn't add much value once I had the concepts done for all of them. The adult was just a more diluted version of the ancient. I see a lot of unique scenarios for the baby, ancient, and undead. The adult and ancient had nearly the same scenarios, so I ended up scrapping it.
I plan to do a full life cycle monthly but this one is taking longer for two reasons.
1. Minor tendinitis in my wrist
2. Skills not where I want them
You guys are *awesome* and have never complained about quality. So definitely don't think I feel pressured to release nothing but the best haha I truly enjoy pushing myself to grow as an artist every single chance I get.
So the first attempt at the tarrasque looked like this. It is just a bit bland design wise. I don't dislike it, but it doesn't give me that " Wow, I'm proud of this" feeling at all. It could have been used for the adult, but I didn't want the adult to just be a more boring looking ancient if that makes sense? haha

Here is the re-worked version! I studied dinosaur anatomy, practiced sculpting rock textures, and played a lot of Monster Hunter. The shapes are much more interesting in this one, and will paint WAY better! A wash will really bring this to life~ I have to design with washes in mind because I'm not a great painter lol

So yeah! That's what's up. Again, no one has been rude or rushing me at all. This is especially a cool personal improvement so I wanted to share!! It makes me really happy that I can see the improvement in my work every month. This tarrasque might come out this Sunday! That's the goal!
While we are on the topic, this is the best monster head I could make last year. I made this in between studying for my thermodynamics midterm. Since then I have graduated and been able to pursue art full time, thanks again for that <3 I used to be really embarrassed of my old work, but now it just makes me excited to see how far I've come.

Amazing things to come~
