Accented Vowels Part 2 | 'Didolnod' äëïöüẅÿ

Goodness me guys, what is happening in the UK right not?

Anywho, apologies for the delay, I've been having some real issues with a set of collabs I have with the government and that stole my focus. This did also end up needing to be 3 parts instead of 2 and the 3rd will be up today too.

--------

In this video we will be looking at the 2nd of the 4 vowel accents - 'didolnod' or diaeresis mark.

Again, a reminder that vowel accents aren't that common yn y Gymraeg. They may seem overwhelming when you start your language learning journey and you may think there are a lot of them, but the most common accent only appears in 0.14% of words.

Once you reach the age of 11 it becomes difficult, almost impossible for some people, to hear and make sounds that exist in your non-native target language. Don't let this put you off but use it as a reminder that you are doing your best! Cymraeg has no standardisation or expectation of 'perfection' due to the vast number of dialects and accents within and outside of the country.

And finally, some incredibly important reminders:

- Language is about communication. If people understand you that is enough.

- Fluency is a myth. There are so many words out there and so much variation across the dialects. You cannot and are not expected to know them all! Think about all the words in your native language you don't know or use.

- You're doing great!

--------

In part 3 we will be looking at the last 2 vowel accents: yr acen ddyrchafedig (the acute accent) and yr acen ddisgynedig (the grave accent).

Mwynha :)
