I love that quote from Tadeda it's one of my favorites from the series. Was kinda sad it got translated differently tho.

The part where Hinata says he’s “only ever chased the ball, but the court is so full of information” is one of my favorite scenes in this series I think. It really marks the turning point of when Hinata starts trying to develop into his own player fully, which actually goes together with what you said about him watching. Because he’s always been on the court, even in middle school, he never learned the basics or how to observe the game since he’s just been thrust into it the whole time. In a typical school volleyball club, the second and third years would typically be players and the first years would play supporting roles like the ball boy more. You see this in season 3 flashbacks with the third years where daichi learns to read the spiker’s form by essentially being the ball boy. Being put on the sidelines here is actually exactly what Hinata needed to round out his game bc atm, he’s still not a great player. He has strong strengths but devastating weaknesses, and like Ukai said, the Karasuno team kind of perpetuates that by necessity. Now Hinata has the chance to go through the more proper process of learning the sport. This translation is different but the one I’m accustomed to had Takeda sensei tell Hinata “he who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom” or something to that effect. Hinata started at a point he normally wouldn’t have bc of the freak quick, but now he can actually develop his fundamentals. My bad if I’m repeating myself but I really love how this arc addresses hinata’s weaknesses and starts his development.
