I think most people, now, don't even consider reading or watching or whatever a film review beyond maybe a paragraph to understand why it's got the Rotten Tomatoes rating it does. I think what makes us and them different is a general interest in media literacy, but I think that difference is driven by the fact that most people do not only not have an RLM, they don't even have a Chris Stuckmann. Not since Ebert, because I don't think Roeper ever truly entered the zeitgeist like either Siskel or Ebert. Us, though... Not to "fandom" out here, but in that last ghost video, where Rich basically just said that their honesty is their product and if they lie about anything they have nothing... Didn't that feel magical? Just a little? Like something in the air, an inherent truth, called out loud and commanded down into factual reality by what would be its greatest conduit? Like lightening? Does the general public have anyone that this could be said of in, well, criticism in general?

2024-09-24 02:47:00 +0000 UTCThis video is how I found out 3 different shows I've watched or are in the process of watching have been cancelled - Inside Job, Dead Boy Detectives, and Reboot. I'm not particularly cut up over the first two, but Reboot was really good! Even if it's getting cancelled the season stands well on its own, and I definitely recommend it as a watch. Ironically enough, Reboot is about this precise topic. It's a sitcom about the writers and actors involved in reviving a "Growing Pains"-type sitcom from the 90s with the original cast (all who have had their own misfortunes after the original show), among some new "next generation" members. This parallels the production of the show itself where the showrunner ends up having to work with her estranged father (who happens to be the original's showrunner) who have two very conflicting visions for what the show should ultimately be.

They have switched it up enough and thought up enough of a new concept that it's not bad. Enough so that unlike Terminator: Dark Stool, I'm somewhat excited to see what they do next, assuming Netflix doesn't cancel it.

Tezuka's former roommate sure seemed to think it was the case when i was visiting with him in Japan. Again it wasn't true, or at the very least true enough to force a settlement, Disney wouldn't require a lawyer to be on the line at all times when TLK is discussed. An artist isn't going to stop making art just because there's too much of it, but there still needs to be somebody who can navigate this shit for Joe Schmo. Used to be someone like Gene Shalit or Roger Ebert was well known enough that Joe Schmo could go, "Oh, I know that guy tends to like stuff that I like also," and that would be something for him to go by. I know I have a lot in common with Jay's tastes, so when Jay likes something, I tend to take notice -- same principle. Everybody takes issue with rotten tomatoes, but their real crime might be the simple application of aggregation, period.
