PUTIN PODCAST 2.0
Added 2022-10-07 18:54:00 +0000 UTCWhat makes a tyrant? Why do human beings continue to let tyrants have positions of power? This episode tackles these questions.
Dr. John hasn't been in the most hopeful place listening to the news about the war in Ukraine, and studying/researching Russian President Vladimir Putin, hence this conversation has continued at our dinner table.
For those who aren't caught up on our first conversation about Vladimir Putin, you can find it with the link below:
UPDATE: As for Lauren (me): I visited the urgent care Wednesday morning and am on a cocktail of meds. I'm feeling up for TGIF tonight (at least as of right now), so plan on John and me talking all about the recent news about Lori's competency. Link coming soon!)

2022-10-20 07:59:59 +0000 UTCMy husband listened to this today. He said that it was enlightening for him personally His mother has been enamored by a personality cult of a person with dictatorial ambitions and he has been struggling to understand why.

2022-10-12 21:11:50 +0000 UTCI finally listened to this. Iām going to share it with my husband. I have the same concerns. What is helping me keep it in perspective is to remember that people have always lived with uncertainty - whether it be with pregnancy before modern medicine, plague, etc. Control is mostly an illusion anyway - in my extremely humble opinion. I have updated our emergency supplies and weāve got a plan in case something happens. Letās hope for the best!

2022-10-11 17:38:54 +0000 UTCPs Dr John I relate re too thinky brain into realism. I was reminded years ago itās ok my brain is into fault detecting and seeing negatives as long as I look at the positives too. Which is increasingly hard in these times. The news is very depressing and it must be especially hard on Dr John being a bit of a history nerd, itās scary to see how humans donāt seem to have learnt from the past and knowing too much history can make for scary feelings when we see what looks like horrible patterns from the past. See how cheery I can be ? Itās hard to see a silver lining- but we just gotta keep breathing and looking at the real true good things. And maybe come visit me in Australia and take a road trip.

2022-10-11 05:14:31 +0000 UTCInteresting connection to people who are fans of these tyrant types having potentially had similar relationships with parenting? Iād not thought of that. I always think if people had bossy fathers theyād go the other direction. But at the same time, I know a few men who have married tyrannical women who are like their bossy mothers. Like they want someone else to control their lives or something. I went through DV with a tyrant but my dad was a gentle strong silent type of bloke - which is probably why it was so easy for me to see his behaviour wasnāt ok and I didnāt deserve it or want to hang around. I did have the guilt and pity for his broken tough guy thing, but I think was able to seperate that out cos of my upbringing. Got me thinking about some of the true followers of tyrants I see defying logic.

2022-10-11 05:09:46 +0000 UTCI read between the lines and occasionally thought Dr John was secretly talking about Trumpet as well. Critical father - absent mother Etc etc etc There is an interesting book written by a load of psychologists - Duty to Warn ? I think itās called. But sadly at this stage I donāt think itās much use trying to engage with any of the far gone conspiracy folks - they just dig in deeper. Many of them will probably think this podcast is bad cos they probably like Putin

2022-10-11 04:59:06 +0000 UTCThis is off the subject, but I'd love to hear Dr. John's thoughts about Darrell Brooks. He's so competently incompetent imo lol š¤Ŗ

2022-10-11 02:26:23 +0000 UTCThis was a good one! I connected a bunch of dots about my own upbringing as well. Dr. John knows his stuff. Thank you! Both of you.

2022-10-08 13:01:25 +0000 UTCThank you. I was so unsure about posting. I love that Dr. John is able to confirm what I hope sane Americans already know but weāve been so intimidated to speak out that itās been hard on the mental health of so many of us. The threat of retaliation by the followers of a certain former (yes, he really lost) president is real. As a retired librarian, I think of The Emperorās New Clothes and ādivide and conquerā mixed with cult insanity. Weāve considered moving out of the country but we still have young grandchildren nearby to play withā¤ļø

2022-10-08 00:48:11 +0000 UTCBrava Debi! I couldnāt agree more. Iām assuming itās not talked about because Hidden wants to avoid politics entirely. (Religion canāt be avoided in the Daybell case.) Too risky these days. Iām 74 but Iām losing hope for us too. So sad to contemplate.

2022-10-08 00:34:24 +0000 UTCWow! Thank you! Is it my need for āconfirmation biasā after experiencing the last 6+ years of listening to MAGA fanatics spread lies, hatred, bullying and similar āfollower behaviorā of the tyrant in our midst? I love this podcast! Itās interesting that we all have to dance around the subject of a former president who displays the same attributes as Putin. Do we not speak directly because we donāt want to consider the behavior as dangerous? I know that there are people in other countries who openly discuss their fears and criticism about American nationalists, QAnon and the radical right. It is not just the political nature but the religious component too. At 69 years old, Iām losing hope for my country. BTW, Dr John my granddaughter is graduating from USC this year with a degree in psychology. Next stop is law school.

2022-10-07 21:03:28 +0000 UTCIām glad you are on the mend. My mental health wonāt let me think about world events right now. Iām not having mental health issues, but donāt want to. Iām keeping healthy by staying away from things I canāt control. Itās kind of ironic that I am a true crime fan, but canāt look at current events or Putin. š¤·š»āāļø. I donāt think I am the only one though.
