April Update

And a good day to you!

Welcome to an update of where I'm at and plans for the month.

What have I been working on?

You may have noticed updates have been a lot less frequent than in previous months. This is partly because of improved stability, and partly because I've been working on Scene/Adventure parsing.

The Muncher has received the following updates:

* Several small parsing fixes for monsters/characters.

* Support for life domain cleric now DDB supports it.

* Monsters will now use their `@mod` value in damage if it can be determined to help with scaling/active effects etc.

* A bunch of tweaks/improvements to active effect generation.

* Support for Candlekeep Mysteries Monsters.

* Support for fetching the Cobalt token using DDB Data Grabber.

* Allow for the Cobalt token to be stored in the local browser, rather than Foundry.

I don't really care about that, you mentioned Adventure Parsing?

The adventure parsing is going to work differently from the rest of the importer, it's going to be a standalone application - there are several technical reasons for this, which I won't go into here, but it will work as follows:

* You'll download a config file from the ddb-importer module - this will create a "Mapping File" for you that will contain information about your world, for example, the unique ids for monsters, spells and items that are currently in your compendiums.

* When you start the adventure muncher you will need to import this file, this will help link the Journal entries to your munched spells/monsters/items.

* The adventure muncher will then check to see what books you have can access, and present a list, you can then download and process any of these accessible books.

* It will generate a file that can be imported using the Adventure Importer/Exporter module.

GIMMIE!!!

The "hard" bit of the adventure parsing is done, I have nodejs code that can be run from a command line to generate an adventure. This is not hugely user friendly for most folks though, so I need to wrap this in a nice graphical interface.

This is the actual hard bit for me as I'm having to teach myself how to build an app!

I'm also awaiting the merging of some changes I have proposed to the Adventure Importer/Exporter module to support image importing for Journals.

I'm hopeful that I will have an alpha available in the next week or two. I have the next week on holiday and will be spending time with my family and teaching myself the technology for the user interface. Please be aware though those software developers are notoriously bad at estimating things :D

New Keys

I'll be updating the key posts with the new keys early next week and the February keys will become inactive.

Happy adventuring!

Comments

No specific tier requirements, I'll be posting more details about timelines today, but hope to have it in the hands of everyone in the next couple of weeks.

MrPrimate

Once the adventure importer is done, will it require a specific tier to obtain it? BTW, love what you're doing here to help us make the most of our DDB investments!

Brian Gackenbach

Awesome!!

Jeremy Heyer

There is a tab called "Experimental" where you can find these as they are a bit hit and miss

MrPrimate

Just joined and this is amazing! Question: I'm not seeing Feats, Races, or Classes in the DDB Muncher where spells, items, and monsters are listed. Is there a different section for them? Sorry if this is obvious somewhere, I'm very new to foundry!

Works the same way, just make sure you select a folder in your Assets Library

MrPrimate

Is there a specific way I should be uploading/importing the DDB compendiums to use on the Forge? Still wrapping my head around that...

The Ugly Dm

that probably isn't working then! My suggestion is to pop across to the Discord and ask for advice their - there are a bunch of friendly people, I'm unfortunately about to head to bed. It's also worth checking out the help videos linked in the importer screens

MrPrimate

I really don't want to ask this and be seen as an idiot but how do I know that my importer is working? My folders that have DDB at the front end of them are all blank.

Cole Smith

not initially, but there will be an entry point if you want to use it that way

MrPrimate

Would it be possible to get the terminal tool? Would be nice for those of us that are engineers / use the command line regularly.

So most of the effects that can be dynamically generated without parsing any descriptions are done. Next step is to start to add spells/features etc especially those not in the SRD

MrPrimate

Good stuff mate, how’s the Active Effects development going?

RudeCanine

Jack, good stuff! I appreciate the updates and efforts!

Dude. You're awesome. Best FTT support/developer I support! Keep up the good work!
