The black substance that ran out of her body was actually the tentacle that Forrest had previously placed inside her. Since Forrest is temporarily able to use magic, he was able to control the tentacle within her and have it kill her.
Forrest and Gray will meet again, but neither of them will remember the other. There is still one more chapter left in their past life arc. Forrest’s pain is far from over.
