There must have been some kind of weird synergy happening in the rpg/game world last month. I received 4 separate requests for car chase ambiences. As I didn't really have one of these specifically, I thought I'd give it a try.
This was a tough one to get right. Early on I decided that I wanted it to have a 70s/early 80s type vibe. I grew up on old cop shows that always featured car chase scenes: CHiPs, TJ Hooker, Magnum P.I., and Knight Rider. I tried to capture some of that spirit in this track.
I mixed this with the cars/ambience forward and the music slightly back to be more film like, less music video. I tried about a dozen combinations of this - music forward, music down 3db, 5db, music up 3db, 5db etc etc. However, as every audio engineer knows, you always second guess yourself. I left this alone for a full week and then revisited it.
Naturally, I hated it, tore it all down, and remixed it.
In another post I'll be including 2 alternate versions of this track. An ambience-only version and a music-only version. Note: the music only version will have 10 seconds of silence at the beginning as it's taken straight from the original mix.
Thank you all for your continuing support.
best,
Tim
