Ranger Report - Episode 02: Starstruck

The corridor was a long, dark tunnel, and every flicker of crimson light only deepened the sense of doom that clung to the air. Between bursts of alarm sirens, an eerie hush took hold, broken only by the echo of footsteps pounding against concrete.
Yet the only record of it came from an old security camera. Two officers rushed forward, each step driving them deeper into the underground base.
“Which one is this?” the scientist asked. “Our fourth? Fifth attack this month?”
The officer gave a grim nod. “Fifth. If this keeps up, New York will be wiped off the map entirely.”
A secure door slid open ahead of them with a hiss, unsealing layers of steel that were supposed to keep the world’s most valuable assets in secrecy. Once they passed through, the door hissed shut behind them, heavier now than any prison cell could ever be.
“So… they authorized it?” the scientist asked, though not confident it would work.
“Yeah,” the officer replied. “But are we sure she’s the one?”
They reached a wide observation window set in the concrete wall. On the other side, a woman was immersed in a cold mix of chemicals. The young woman, in her early twenties, was lying unconscious with some cables strapped to her face and through her body.
The scientist began typing the necessary commands, and the final step was voice confirmation of the target. “She has to be. Captain Nicole. Registered Boon: Ultra Regeneration.”
Silently, the officer studied the woman beyond the window. “All right,” he said. “Initiating Project Star Struck. Releasing the first iteration of the Red Ranger.”
