This piece is a departure from my typical work in both style and medium. It's a work in gouache that has more of an illustrative feel. It's an intentional decision to accompany a story from my childhood! It involves expectation versus reality and a really strange travelling attraction!
I'll share the full story in Friday's YouTube video! But of course you get to see the completed work first!
Additionally, I discovered that I really love working with gouache, so I'll likely be using it again! Gouache is typically compared to watercolor in that it's fluid and water based. But there's more opacity and pigment than in watercolor. So where watercolor goes on really sheer, gouache is thicker, almost creamy. It dries quickly and can be layered with ease.
