A diligent, hardworking and competent autistic woman has been punished by being left to do her own job, plus everyone else’s, it has been confirmed.
Ellie Mulligan, 34, who would rather drive herself into burnout than miss a self-imposed deadline, has now found herself running five separate departments in her role at a mobile network company, while still receiving the salary of an admin assistant.
Mulligan explained: “You know how you ask people for things but just end up chasing and chasing and chasing so eventually decide ‘it’s probably easier if I just do it myself’? That - but for jobs for which I’m totally unqualified.”
“For example, I’m not a database developer but honestly, our actual database developer doesn’t seem to be, either,” Mulligan continued over the sound of a YouTube tutorial on FileMaker.
“When I’m done with this, the stationery cupboard needs reorganising and the loos could do with a good clean. Then I’ve got a conference call with New York regarding the future of the company.”
Mulligan’s boss, Graeme Hart, 50, said: “A promotion? Nah, Ellie’s a great admin assistant.”
