Her reasons will be discussed in the next few chapters along with Qiu Jinwei's behavior. We'll also get into the more deep-seated reasons for why the opposition is staunchly against the reforms very soon.

2024-10-22 13:03:09 +0000 UTCKayla is surprisingly naive and oblivious in these first two chapters: She doesn't realize Jinwei's animosity, somehow thinks she can smooth things over with presents and needs Jiang's comments to even consider factionalism within the Emperor's circle. I know it's a long running joke by now that Kayla works herself to death and doesn't have time for anything, but this isn't believable, considering everyting she has gone through by now. She obviously can't take too many risks or use vicious methods to get her way without undermining the Emperor's trust in her, but right now she's conducting herself like an amateur and that's unbecoming.

2024-10-22 05:29:57 +0000 UTCI get the suspicion that Jinwei's trust can't actually be won over. He really seems like a brilliant but petulant child who is jealous that his bestie has other friends. And since the dude is presumably in his late 20s or early 30s I don't know if he is ever growing up.
