Book 2 Chapter 35-Uncertainty

Comments

No, I think she has the right idea. If there is one thing that this novel has hammered home again and again, it is that literally no one at this level of politics can be trusted. Even the most virtuous person either has to play the game and be deceitful or lose the game and probably their head, along with the heads of anyone they care about. I mean, how would Kayla ever trust her easily to begin with? Ashina has already deceived Kayla once before; deceived the whole of the empire once before! Do you think an unwed foreign princess would be allowed to wander into brothels if they knew about it ahead of time? The political fallout from that single event could have started a war. Besides, as far as I can tell, there is no value to be gained in trusting anyone.

Poor Ashina. Hopefully Kayla decides to genuinely open up to her, or this is gonna get really painful for everyone.
