It's really interesting to see the different ways the Emperor and Empress Dowager view the situation with Wenyuan. The Princes are both going to keep getting more and more powerful, and the more powerful they get the more powerful Wenyuan is going to have to become to continue balancing them out (Even more so if the other princes/princesses end up getting involved eventually). The Emperor seems aware of this to some degree and is willing to turn a blind eye to Kayla solidifying her position, to the point that he basically accepts being tacitly lied to. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the same camp as Wei Guang and sees this as a test with the intent of giving Wenyuan even more responsibility in the future if he can meet expectations. While the Empress Dowager on the other hand seems too set in her ways on HOW someone is supposed to go about becoming powerful and how things are owed to her instead of accepting the need as it is. A major conflict is brewing between Kayla and the Empress Dowager for sure. Then there's the fact that two Eunuch's in the Empress Dowager's employ have proven to have other masters which certainly implies there are even more. I don't think that the Empress Dowager is nearly as in control of everything as she thinks she is. The question is who is pulling the strings of this Eunuch? The first or second Prince perhaps? The plot thickens.

2023-04-21 19:14:49 +0000 UTC😂As they say in China, "One rank's difference can crush you to death". Though Kayla's technically only second-highest ranked in this interaction (with the palace ranking first), there's not much the poor sucker can do if Kayla pulls rank on him.
