I've pretty much been only into satire of this genre up until now, it's been very fun seeing Kayla navigate through the 10th dimensional giga-brain political plotting through avid bullshitting, embracing cringe, surviving scandal via being completely shameless compared to her courtly peers, and obsessively abusing her unfair information advantage. And I feel like I've learned more about historical chinese idioms and culture in the short time I've read through the chapter notes of this story than I have in the years since I left college. I spot things like the "Mother instantly recognizing her child through an elaborate disguise" trope here and there now. It just came up recently in a game I was playing.
