The Patreon changes, and what I plan to do

Hey guys. You may have seen by now that Patreon is changing how it's fees are structured. Long story short, your pledges are probably going to increase by 50 cents or so, which given the relatively low nature of most of the pledges here, is a major pain in the butt. Here's what I'm going to do about it. Until this whole mess settles down (or it's prudent to switch to a new method) I'll be pausing my Patreon releases. Any PDFs I'd normally release here will be released on DrivethruRPG instead. If you're a patron, there'll be an exclusive discount on anything released in this way (assuming it's not simply pay-what-you-want.) I dearly hope most of you choose to stick with me while this mess is sorted out, though I wouldn't blame you if you didn't. I'm on break right now but will post more details about the next release when I'm back next week. Cheers all, Joe

Comments

In theory they ran it past the community in advance, but in practice I saw very little of it. The creator community forums have never seemed particularly useful to me.

Hey Paride, I think I get 60-70% of anything sold through DriveThruRPG. Honestly, the best thing you can do to support my work is share the love, play more games, and send me useful feedback for the next project. The more of that I get, the better I can make releases big and small!

Hello Joe, it's pretty clear that patreon could have found solutions to minimise the transaction fees, but instead they did prefer to milk the cow to death, so I hope to see a migration to another less greedy platform. Meanwhile, how can we support you? How much % of a pwyw the author actually receives?

Paride

I wish they would had discussed that before with the community.
