As others have said: 1) a test rig would be neat; 2) I'm not sure a chain alone is whip-like enough. It seems like the braided leather/cloth of a traditional bull whip provides constraints on how the energy is transferred down its length. Could be fun to talk about how/what material properties impact wave propagation
