Where have I been...?

Hello guys.

Four years is a long long time. My need to leave and pursue other things, I have my reasons of course. But I also accept the consequences of that.

Consequences mean accepting that people will lose interest, people will feel anger or resentment because of how I just disappeared.

I don't want to make excuses for it, and want to say that if you do feel this way, it is valid.

Will I lose most of my followers because of my hiatus? If the answer is yes, it is for me to accept and carry. I believe that I have no right to feel entitled or righteous. I want to be accountable for the choices I've made.

I finally pursued a different career, but that doesn't mean my love for anime, music, and sharing has disappeared.

I can now afford to not focus on views, subs, algorithm... I've come to hate how YouTube has developed. It's now about how to gain as much views by gaming the algorithm, thumbnails, title, content...

I definitely understand that this is reality, I completely understand and accept that. I do not reject it because that would be delusional. But of course, I wanted to have the choice to be able to be free from that, and I think I've done that.

I'll only now play, arrange, transcribe, and upload things that truly matter to me. I wish to only upload when I truly feel connected to the music, and that I want to share with you all. I want to focus on shared experiences where you guys and I can relive emotions.

I always prefer a win-win, rather than get swept by the "zero sum" of our culture today. I always think, "can the other person benefit too, and not just me?"

I'll be uploading something soon, and I hope that it can reignite some of the lost experiences we've had from these past years.

Where have I been...? Where have I been...?

Welcome back Theishter ! This is such a magical moment to have news from you. You were one of the most inspiring pianist ! Hope your doing well and will have fun from posting time to time ! I just have a question, I had suscribed at your patreon because I was searching for the sheet of your arrangement of Lit from A Silent Voice. But I can't have access to it, the link don't work anymore. Did you still have the sheet and is there a way I could have it ?

Welcome back! It sounds weird for people to be angry at you? I haven't seen it at all but that's their problem; you don't owe anyone anything! You are human too and can live however you want. It's nice to see you back and I hope you can just focus on having fun :)

Your cover to Porter Robinson goodbye to a world lives rent free in my head 😭😭 I think the best work comes from a lot of care and interest so, I’m excited to see what u make! I’m a visual artist but that song inspired me to learn piano after playing the trumpet for like 8 years in school lol (unfortunately I haven’t been playing either bc life and art is my first love and takes a lot of time anyway) Cool to see you back!!

When your favorite show or YouTuber disappears, it often feels like they’re gone for good. That’s why seeing this today genuinely surprised me — in the best way. It really made my day. Even after someone stops posting, you can’t help but check their account from time to time, holding onto a small hope that they might return. I’m truly glad you’re back, and I’m really looking forward to whatever you choose to share next. I hope you’re doing well.

Eiham

Happy to hear from you, whatever you intend to do :) The way you played music was truly inspiring, and I only hoped you were doing well.

TheIshter。 Such a heartwarming comment, and I can relate to it a lot as well. For me, it was his “Re:Zero ED2 – Stay Alive” and “Undertale Main Theme”. They accompanied me throughout my school life and even beyond that. I’m really happy to see that even people on the other side of the world love TheIshter.

Hey Ishter, I’m gonna put a TL;DR down below. First of all, I don’t think people are as angry or disappointed as you might think. To many of us, you and your arrangements have been a core memory in our lives. Especially for me, since your and Animenz’s arrangements have been with me for almost 9 years now, through both difficult and good times. Just so you know, I’m turning 23 next April, which means you’ve been there for me from middle school onwards. I’m still, after all these years, listening to my “Anime OP Piano” playlist every few days, and it’s honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me. I already thought and accepted that you had moved on from YouTube and had different goals in life, and I was never once angry at you for that decision. “Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened” or something like that :^) I think there will be fewer people than before, but there will also be tons of new people who get introduced to anime and your music. And many people from back then will find their way back and enjoy the passion you put into your arrangements. Second of all: Now that you have a different career and just want to enjoy anime music and play what you truly love, I think you’re at the perfect starting point for making even better arrangements. I hope you know that we – or at least the majority of us – don’t expect you to go back to regular uploads. We’re just happy to see you pop up in our recommendations from time to time and enjoy your music. And if you only play or arrange what you really love, it’ll be even better for us listeners as well. And for this last paragraph, I just want to tell you how much you (not just Animenz, but you) inspired me and still do. My favorite anime piano video on social media is your “Re:Zero ED2 – Stay Alive” (yes, Rem is best girl). Back then, I watched Re:Zero as a clueless 13/14-year-old and got completely overwhelmed by that famous episode where you just stare at the screen while the credits roll next to the frozen Subaru holding Rem. Of course, I had to look for reactions, music, and arrangements of that scene. That’s when I found your video. I was still very emotional from the episode, and your arrangement instantly became my favorite by a landslide. And the funny thing is, even years later, I can still hear and feel the passion you put into that piece. I think that passion is what you would love to go back to – and I fully agree. By the way, it’s still one of the hardest pieces I ever learned to play (second only to Animenz’s Kuchizuke Diamond). I’m not good at piano compared to professionals or people who were trained properly, but you inspired me to keep learning and pushing through. And it worked. I was able to play Stay Alive in Japan, at Kyoto Station and Nagasaki Station, just this year in March/April. It made me incredibly happy. And I just realized that without your and Animenz’s videos, I would probably never have gotten into piano again. Sorry for typing so much, but I really felt like you needed to know that you’ve inspired so many people and continue to be a part of their lives through your music. Okay, now for the TL;DR that I almost forgot: TL;DR: I’m glad you’re back. Just do what you love, now that you’re not dependent on YouTube money anymore. Please enjoy your life, and if you feel like it, let us listen to your amazing arrangements again sometimes. Every now and then is more than enough – we’re happy whenever you appear in our recommendations, so don’t stress yourself at all. And I hope the new Re:Zero season will have some amazing new songs ;) If anyone actually read all of this… I hope you have a great day, wherever you are. Much love from Germany.

This got to be the best thing that happened this month! Just a few days ago I was still contemplating wether you are still somewhere out there enjoying playing piano by yourself. I was a late follower who only discovered you around 5 years ago but even though you already left most of the time, you grew to be my most favourite arranger. During these five years, you became my sole motivation to continue playing. Thank you for your communication and I hope you won't feel guilty - everyone sometimes needs a pause and you don't have any obligation to let everyone know every detail of your life. What matters is that you're back and we get to enjoy how your personal transformation might also affect your music. Looking forward!

Lennart

Good to hear from you bro! Hope you are doing better!

Welcome back! As a fan from China, my absolute favorite is your arrangement of the ending theme from A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi). I've been listening to it for years, basically every night as I fall asleep. I finally managed to find this platform to support you and wanted to try and play this piece myself, but since I'm only an amateur, I wasn't able to... This arrangement of "Koi wo Shita no wa" has accompanied me through various key stages of my student life. I often thought about trying to find you on different social media to check if you were doing well. Seeing the email notification tonight (it's 2 AM here right now) made me incredibly happy. In short, welcome back!

As someone who also struggles with communication, I know how daunting it can be to open up. More than anything, I’m glad that you’re healthy and well.

OMG WELCOME, I expected absolutely everything but I didn't expect this. We hope to see some good work man

I'm currently on vacation, but you have no idea how emphatic I was to see a notification from you. I thought I was seeing things, so I had to stop everything that I was doing to share a comment. You really changed the trajectory of my enjoyment in life. I'm really happy to see an update for you, and am even more thrilled to read that you plan to upload again (even if it's on a blue moon and unforetold events say otherwise). I only continue to play the piano because of you. Growing up, I was tormented by my ABRSM teacher because I was one of the few students that performed extremely poorly. You started to post at a time where I wanted to escape the elitism of Classical music and got into anime. I really like your choice of songs and your arrangements. I maintained interest in anime piano music and also fell in love with many later arrangers when you slowed your uploads. Even if you continued your hiatus without speaking a word, you will forever hold a place in my heart for igniting the love I have for music. I honestly don't know what other hobby I truly feel aligned with. So really, thank you for everything. Your arrangements made me find happiness that I didn't know I wanted. In case you were curious, one of my favorite songs is ODDS & ENDS. And wow you crushed the arrangement.

Art and music is about quality not quantity! It's also about enjoyment and not stress. Happy to hear that you took time to be able to pursue other things. We love your music, but first you must be able to enjoy it as well! Can't wait for you to share what truly matters to you :) Happy healing!!!

Sophia

Regardless of YouTube and the videos, I hope you were able to find happiness in your new interests and only upload when you actually want or like to. I’m excited to see what you have in store for us!

Mike

Still, I carry a lot of guilt with myself I think, because of my lack of communication. I think the best I can do is to atone for these choices regardless of people's reactions. Thank you so much!

Ishy

You've always been a quality over quantity Youtuber! Glad to see you're well. Looking forward to seeing your return. ❤️
