General Update #17
Added 2023-08-01 15:34:10 +0000 UTCAnother month, another General Update.
So first off I just wanted to note the increase in Patrons and firstly thank everyone for their support, as always I really appreciate the fact that interest is gathering for this project (albeit it's slightly concerning having more eyes on my work now). With that in mind I'll briefly touch on who I am and the goals for the project itself.
I'm a self-taught developer, all the coding, pixel art, animation, design and Unity work is all done by myself with no purchased assets of any kind. The reason being that I'm firmly of the belief that if you start buying assets then the style in which you create things becomes muddled. I'm also making this game completely by myself, and it's the first I've attempted. So while I'm cutting my teeth on it, please temper your expectations. There's a lot of cool stuff I want to do put into the game, but it's not so much a question of when I'll do it, but if I can do it. As a result the progress here might be slower than you've seen from other more successful creators. I can only say that I'm doing my best to do the most I can in the shortest amount of time.
Regarding the game itself the intent is to keep is as a Metroidvania that's a little light on the mechanics, and I only say that now because I'm still unsure how to put most of it in, it may very well get more complex later on. The game is never going to stray from being full futa/yuri. There'll be Monstergirls on the far end of kinks but enemies will always be, in some way, humanoid. A lot of the areas in the castle are already planned, and a lot of needed features are underway like a save system, a teleport system, a main menu, a map, all that kind of stuff. What you see right now is just mainly the core of the game itself.
Now with that out the way let's talk about the progress over the last month. It's been a busy one and a lot of stuff got done. I think the main thing to take note of is that three new enemies were made and completed with all three of their H-scenes each. There's a couple bugs here and there regarding the new enemies but for me that's a lot of progress in one month. A new attack was also added, the backflip, but currently it's not functioning as there's no need for its intended function to exist just yet.
As I'm sure people have noticed there's a few placeholders in the game still. The 'C' doors as they have been referred to currently block access to a boss room, the save room, and the path to the rest of the castle. As these places are either not yet implemented or incomplete there is no way to currently open these doors.
I'm a big fan of secret areas in games like this and I know a few people have found the two secret areas currently in the game. Right now they're just sort of a "Huh, what's this?" deal, but going forward secret areas will contain stuff like health or useful pickups or items of some kind, as well as perhaps unique scenes. That being said I was worried these areas may be too difficult to find but from what I've seen people find them fairly easily, so in the future I'll be making them a little more difficult to stumble upon.
For plans going ahead I've a few choices. Either I can start working on some essential features like a save system, a main menu, player-death, interactable NPCs or item-pickups, or I can start working on the second area that I plan to implement; the dungeon. The dungeon is already mapped out in some planning sheets but has yet to be placed into the actual game. The dungeon is also going to house some of the more unique enemies, that being it won't just be maids, but Monstergirls down there. I may leave it to a poll at some point wherever people want essential systems first, or more enemy variety.
As a side-note regarding the F95 thread, a lot of people reporting seeing a virus come up with the download of the file. As some will recall there was an issue with this on an earlier build. At that time I did several scans including a full PC scan and couldn't find anything with those, and I had sent the file to several people. At that specific time only one person got pinged for it, but the rest did not.
Now, it could be that my amateur spaghetti coding is so bad that Windows is personally offended by it and it's a false positive, but I sincerely don't want to chance giving someone a virus. I cannot express how much it bothers me that it's there on something I've worked on, and that it's making people worried, that's not a reputation I want tied to the project. Over the next week I'm going to be doing more scans and everything in my power to try and find out what it's flagging Windows Defender for some people.
But that being said, of everyone who has downloaded the file and played it, none have come back to tell me that their systems were in some way compromised. Take that as you will, but as always, please be careful when downloading anything and scan the files yourself.
As always a big thanks to the Patrons for supporting this project, it means so much to me to see people taking such an interest and offering both kind words and honest feedback. I'll do my best.
