May is gonna be LOOSE! [update]

Hey all! I really do too many of these update posts. This one is a little different though!

I've been thinking about my art style a lot these last few... well, always really. I tend to feel like my style is kinda rigid and very focused on making things "perfect" while sticking to all these rules I've set for myself.

I was watching a video on fighting game "looseness" by Maximilian Dood (https://youtu.be/qEgu2xx5hjw), which basically boils down to: Tight fighting games are very designed, they're very much exactly according to the developer's intent and rules. Loose fighting games allow for a lot of creativity and player experimentation, but they lose some groundedness. Both of these things can be to a detriment. Tight FG can be so strict that there's no room for player expression, and loose FG can be so wild that literally ANYTHING GOES and the rules are out the window.

Then it hit me! I feel like my art style is really tight, and I wanna loosen things up!

So for May, things are gonna be a little different. I'm going to leave my art a lot messier, and try not to let my perfectionism have its way. I'm gonna speed my process up (maybe spend a day on any piece maximum) and not focus too much on avoiding mistakes, instead just on keeping things LOOSE and fun, rolling with the flow. Of course, commissions and specific tier rewards will be the usual quality. But polls are going to be LOOOOSE. Might even pick more than one winner if the looseness works out!

Sorry for the weird post!

Yeah, the reason I didn't want to do it at first is because my process tends to be really rigid and not very interesting. So hopefully this allows me to step outside my comfort zone and learn something!

I think a while ago, when people suggested you post more sketches and stuff this is kind of what they meant. It's honestly really cool to see the more messy, off-the-cuff stuff artists make sometimes, and it could be a cool way for you to experiment with things and get some low-key feedback from time to time.

We here for it, will be super exciting!
