Transferring the Archives

Hello Patrons!

I know I've been quiet... a LOT on here. I'm much more active on the Patreon Telegram group (for the $3+ folks). Every year I'm on here I want to do things better, but I often forget just how HARD it is to maintain and balance everything in my life and Patreon often falls by the wayside. This year may be different because I'll finally have some costume projects again. My Patreon works best when I have an active project to share and that hasn't happened much lately. I got very behind on posting updates about Topaz so I plan to tackle those updates next.

What I'm attempting to do today is work on transferring all the "CanineHybrid Archives" of my Work-In-Progress (WIP) photos from 2007-2014ish off of Flickr and onto my Patreon Google Drive.

Flickr has been going downhill for years under Yahoo's ownership, and it's now recently been moved under SmugMug's control. I've been paying a lot of money every year to have a "pro" account and I was grandfathered in the old perks when Yahoo screwed around with membership plans about a decade ago, but now I've decided it just isn't worth keeping anymore and the price has gone up. I lose my pro subscription mid February. Once that expires, most of the photos being hosted will become unavailable... and now to be deleted by Flickr before long. The limit is down to 1,000 photos for free accounts as of 2019.

I have all these photos somewhere in the bowels of my computer, but it's a hassle to try and dig them up when I can just batch download them off my Flickr account, run a script to re-name everything so they stay in order, and upload to the Google Drive. Paying for updating storage on Google is a lot more cost effective (free up to 30GB, $20/yr for 100GB... vs $60/yr unlimited).

But it's a time-consuming process. And now I have a deadline in which to move it or lose it.

In the past year I managed to move all my Pokemon costumes to the Patreon folder (2007-2011) so I'm about halfway done. Now I gotta work on 2012 (Charizard & canine resin mask WIPs) onward. So soon as that's finished I'll let you know. Hoping to be done before the end of the month so it'll be ready when I release the rewards and update the links for February.
