The construction of a "Safety Theme Park" is a rather unusual development in the wake of a disaster. From the accounts I’ve read of this one, though, it certainly seems to be effective. The attraction helps visitors prepare for earthquakes, rollover car accidents, subway train evacuations, and common medical emergencies... and it does so using immersive, interactive experiences.
Here’s the Theme Park’s YouTube channel, which has footage from many of its different attractions. It’s kind of surreal to see effects that I’m used to seeing as part amusement park rides and Halloween haunted houses being put to use for something rather more serious.
To be honest, though, it seems like a good idea. Over its lifetime it’ll have made an impression on tens of thousands of residents and visitors – all of whom will be just a little bit better equipped if they ever have to deal with an emergency.
