A Picture Of My Baby Plus Two For One Tickets For Patrons In Adelaide

Jump down to the bottom for two-for-one ticket code if you want to dodge technical photography slash baby logistics chat.

I KNOW i promised not to share baby photos, but here you go. This is the exception that proves the rule. I feel this is sufficiently protective of little Laser Fraser’s privacy. One of the stories that I heard from people who have been parents was that their baby would only fall asleep in some idiosyncratic way that would wreck your back - being held out at 90 degrees, or on only one shoulder at a specific ruinous angle. My attempt at a solution is that when Laser needs to be soothed to sleep, I lie down on my back, with her on her back, along my legs and then rock my knees side to side like a human rocking crib.

This has turned out to be a decent way to put her to sleep, but ironically turns out to be quite hard on the back, despite my best laid plans. The main logistical problem (other than getting kicked in what will eventually, as she gets taller, become the face) is I can’t see if she’s asleep, because her head’s down by my knees, so I lift up my phone camera as a periscope to check if her eyes are open. Which means I have about a hundred shots on my phone of a sleepy baby’s under-chin, in levels of blurriness, as the shutter speed adapts to low light. Hence the photograph above, which I can promise you is of my very cute baby, or possibly of The Future.

Or both because Babies Are The Future or something profound like that.

Awesome. Does it matter what kind of writing? Are me and my thesis welcome?

Actually that’s pretty good - we adopted what we called “the giraffe walk“ with our firstborn; which involved large, loping walk carrying him on our shoulder, slightly reminiscent of John Cleese’s entry into the ministry of silly walks. That required a level of acrobatics, while your method allows you to close your eyes. You should patent it!

We just hang out in a zoom room and do some writing

Looking forward to the writing meetings, I can only speak for myself, but Fridays sound good :)

Could someone explain to me what a writer's meeting is? Pretty please. :D

Good luck on your shows this week!

Haha, it's a blast. Love having twins except during phases like this where one may have a good day but if the other doesn't your day is still bad, I write as I sit in a chair in the nursery with the boy who wouldn't go back to sleep so that we don't wake his twin sister and mama. Hope the phase doesn't last too long for you and little Laser.

Heyyy! Welcome to the four month sleep regression!

Wait, is your baby Neo? Is she causing glitch in the Matrix?

I wouldn't dream of not paying for a ticket to your show. At least for now. When you sell out every Fringe run like Wil Anderson I'll hit you up :p

While I've never tried that technique, I am quite familiar with the use of a phone camera to tell if your baby is asleep. We had twins in October and I end up wearing one of the two for most naps while the other sleeps in a rocker. Even though they're right there on your chest, it's very hard to see if they've nodded off without either a mirror or the phone camera trick.

I mean, if anyone can see a baby in that photo I’d be much surprised - hence my willingness to share it!

I don’t see a baby but that is okay. We, too, chose not to publicly share any such photos. May your banjoing be bright in your upcoming shows and your nights restful.

I wish you the very best at your upcoming gigs. As far as getting babies to sleep, we found that when all else failed a quick ride in the car would do it. I realize this isn't practical in a lot of situations! I still laugh about the very old school method of a shot of brandy in the bottle my grandma told me about. Both my parents ended up with drinking problems...hmmm.

Cutest baby ever!
