Just a little update

Hey there, GGN.
I'm deep in the content mines working on my video for Torment and I'm really excited to see it through. Also I've had a personal personal project in the works for a while now that's like an animatic horror story thing that I'm working up the nerve to commit to posting when it's done and it's really dumb, but I put a lot of work into it. Also, getting back into shorter content with Grimpressions has been real refreshing. I sorta just wanted to give you an idea for where my heads been at the last couple days.

So, essentially I'm a little frustrated with Darkened Steams. I know only like a 5th of my viewers watch them and that's fine because I have a lot of fun making them and rambling about X-Fi-I mean Supernatural. Ordinarily I can do them really quick. In fact, the night I uploaded the last one, I was already pretty much done with the next. I've been having a lot of trouble getting them uploaded without being flagged for copyright though. This has happened for a few of them at random points sometimes weeks later and doesn't seem to have adversely effected my channel as they are not monetized, but at least with this latest one, it's like no matter how much I chop it up, invert things, zoom in on them, freeze frame, you name it. It always flags it immediately for something as small as a 4 second clip or sometimes even just a freeze-frame and it sorta feels like the hammer starting to come down on it. As much as I like doing them, I don't want them to wind up screwing over my channel should CW send it's death squad after me for....advertising their show.  My channel is so important to my existence and if it went down because of the CW I would just (play Minecraft forever)

It's almost 2am and in between writing for the bigger video, I've just been rendering it with  slight changes and then uploading to no avail, and it's making me think that it might not be the most viable format, could probably come back to bite me in the ass and maybe if I focused on more Grimpressions or broke up bigger reviews with smaller ones (about shorter games/walking sims/etc) or something that it would be less of a headache.  I'm at a place where they're not shutting me down, but it feels like maybe i'd be better off replacing it with something else for a while or retooling how they work.  I don't know, i'm open to hearing your thoughts though. I'm gonna sleep on it for now.

Have a good night, gothgamers
and as always thank you for your support <3

UPDATE: Thanks so much for you kind and encouraging words. At the moment I think I'm leaning towards migrating DS content to a second channel.  So in case I follow through with that uh, keep an eye out here:

i have never watched supernatural or xfiles and at first was kinda bummed when you started putting them out, but now i really look forward to them every time. i hope you keep em up and puttin them on a different channel makes sense to me!

Watching Darkened Streams refills my will to live. I know nothing about Supernatural, but I love listening to you talk about something you clearly care about and I love the little comedy bits you insert into the episodes here and there. However, I fully understand if you don't want to risk your channel over them.

Replikant

Darkened Streams is a lot of fun and I would miss it, reminds me of sf Debris stuff. And uhh, yeah he's been banished to the forbidden zone by youtube copyright many a time. XD

Planescaped

Never watched Supernatural before, not even once. But I've fallen hard for Darkened Streams and I've watched each of your episodes more than once. I'll watch anything and everything you post and I'm super excited for the Torment review. It's your passion and humor that bring life to everything that you choose to examine with your content. I would be sad to see it go, but YT is so random with their restrictions sometimes - I would totally understand if that's what needed to happen for the health of the channel.

Saturnine99

I would absolutely up my Patreon subscription if you made it an exclusive here.

Tee SToney

Hmm I'm of two minds about shifting video length. I love grimpressions and many of the shorter reviews. However, I think the hour and over reviews you've made over the past year have been your strongest content ever and some of the best videos on youtube. Honestly though I think that probably has less to do with the length and more to do with you having the experience/talent to just fire on all cylinders. with any project you make these days. I think shorter/broken-into-parts reviews would be just as good! Cannot wait for the animated project!!!

I'm glad it sounds like you already have another plan for darkened streams with the second channel, I was going to suggest hosting on patreon if that was an option, but as long as you can safely keep doing them I'm happy either way. I know we're a vocal minority in your subs but I absolutely love those videos (I was "I am here for darkened streams" for awhile until I felt bad having other patreons read out that name). My partner and I always watch them together and are super excited when a new one comes up. We've actually started rewatching some X-files together too so you're doing the lords work (sorry supernatural, I think the first time will be it for us).

Rith

A lot of us enjoy darkened streams i think more so because of the passion you obviously have for these weird niches and you should do what keeps that passion alive. While i enjoy the visual gags and your editing is as always very entertaining i would 100% also take an audio only version as i tend to

steve

I'll echo a lot of what's been said to say that I love Darkened Streams and would be sad to see it go, but I just want you to be able to continue to make content that you love, because clearly we all love it too! I was a fan pre-DS and have no doubt that I will continue to be fan no matter what you decide to do. Create what fulfills you and I'm pretty sure it will speak to all of us too.

Lorelie

Even though you're the cause of my Dean crush and love DS to the bones I can let it go if it means not putting at risk one of the most brilliant channel on the platform. As others suggested, you could put it out as a patreon reward, but do it only if you have the time and mind to do it. Good things don't have to necessarily last forever. Whatever you'll do, I'm positive it will be goth and grim, in other words amazing.

yuukicyan

I don’t have constructive feedback but I’ll watch whatever you post. It’s funny af

Adrian

It isn't on bandcamp yet, but it is on my channel under the name PURE ACID HELL.

Corey Martin

Gotta be honest, Darkened Streams is what pushed me to actually become a patron, not even because I enjoy those over your other videos but just the fact that you wanted to talk about all of Supernatural (something I also immensely enjoyed) and just went with it despite the risks and low viewership. I just like this kind of off-the-cuff content rather than just some churned out bullshit meant to squeeze as much out of the Youtube algorithms as possible. But end of the day if I had to pick between Darkened Streams and the rest of your content it'd be the rest of your content, even if I'd hate to see it go. Not really knowledgable about how YouTube works but could it maybe be an idea to just do Darkened Streams on a backup account if only a fraction of your viewership watches it? You still get to do them, those who want to see them get to see them and if they shut it down, oh well, but at least your main channel is intact.

Doctor Beard

I've been debating posting something about this for awhile, but I wanted to tell you that Darkened Streams really won me over in time. Like most of your viewers I found you through your gaming content and I basically just ignored anything that wasn't you making sarcastic quips over horror games. But after awhile I wanted more content and I tried watching Darkened Streams and I really enjoy it, to the point now where I'm just as excited to see another episode of it as I am to see a full review.

David LaSalle

Personally, I’m excited to (potentially) see more grimpressions or short-form reviews, but I also want to echo what other folks have said. If darkened streams are your jam, if they are that which rejuvenates you, then I encourage you to find a way to keep doing them. Also, what is your channel intro song? I assume it’s something you made but couldn’t find it on your Bandcamp.

Dongs.exe

I really enjoy your Supernatural commentary, and would still watch/listen even if it was just audio - although I recognize that really diminishes what you can do with the format (and the SAMMY jokes would be tough to pull off). Hoping you can keep it going somehow through s5, because most of what follows that is just gonna be facepalming anyhow. Super excited for your horror animatic! Your creativity is what sets you apart!

M!

Hey Grim I look forward to your uploads the most. I’ll admit that I’m not one of the Darkened Stream viewers though. But I know you love doing them. Maybe you can start a second channel that is all Darkened Streams/all the time. I don’t know. But I do know you’re doing a knockout job with your channel. I see a lot of crossover between my favorite channels and see you guys commenting on each other’s videos and all I can think is, why doesn’t Grim Beard have as much subs as this person!? You seriously deserve them.

Daniel Pena

I personally like DS as much as your gaming content! As others suggested, I would still watch it if you were uploading somewhere other than your main channel. That said, I think you should do what’s right for you.

Jared Seery

I've really dug all of your videos a lot. I worked my way through all your uploads, found your patreon last month and subbed to it because your channel is incredibly underrated and underwatched. The only videos I hadn't watched were Darkened Streams because up until last week I thought Darkened Streams was you VODs from twitch of you watching TV shows with people and commenting about them. Clicked on one last week after I ran out of Grim videos and really enjoyed it. Now I've binged through all of them. Totally understandable if you're catching copyright heat to want to kill them off if it's too much trouble. If it would work as a spinoff into it's own channel without jeopardizing your main channel that would be ideal because now I feel like I'm invested in these stinky boys' adventures. I've never even got into X-Files or Supernatural and I love and crack up on every obscure deep cut tie-in you find.

bittles999999999999999999

As a big fan of DS, I second the sentiments mentioned that it would be nice to see it continue - particularly as a patreon reward (I would absolutely pay for a separate tier even, but that's me personally) OR alternatively as a separate, sacrificial YT channel. But as a bigger fan of you and your channel as a whole, I ultimately hope you prioritize yourself and focus on making content that makes it worthwhile for you. It's frustrating to creatively edit your videos to avoid penalty, only for your efforts to be rewarded with penalty regardless. That's maddening. And though I'm sure we're all fans of madness to some extent or another, I can also attest that we dont want you to suffer. Thank you for your honesty about DS. I would have been very sad to see it disappear without warning, but understanding behind the scenes, I'd much rather see it go than the whole. Very very excited to see the personal project you're working on too!

Pxl Fsh

Big fan of Darkened Streams but honestly as great as a lot of the editing jokes are I'd honestly listen to you talk about supernatural over a stick figure drawing of dean if that helps avoid the sopyright strikes. I'm also all for the idea of just doing a second channel or making it a tiered reward

Max Cohen

I flat out love Darkened Streams and would hate to see it die. Maybe a second channel devoted to it?

Roland

I look forward to darkened streams that sucks, it's comedy GOLD man. It's hard to hear it might go away.

Spider00x

I would obviously be very sad to see it come off youtube but also if you made Darkened Streams a tiered reward on patreon I would absolutely pay extra for it.

Niall McCorkindale

I love darkened streams! It introduced me to two amazing shows. That being said, I also get it. Regardless of what you do I'm gonna stay goth and stay gaming.

Sam Meyers

Grim, your voice is unique and Ill support your work, regardless. I was a Supernatural fan as well as XFiles and Buffy fan before DS, but watching DS got me into Twin Peaks. So I thank you for helping to broaden my horizons. I love DS and I'd suggest alternate outlets, if you want to go on doing it. But if you would like to refocus, I'll be with you and this bunch regardless.

Tee SToney

It's important make what you want to make so you don't start to hate what you do. Maybe putting it on a separate channel or unlisting them would help? I'm not a ytubeoligist (real job I'm sure) though so may just be talking crap. Regardless love your work and hope you enjoy making it.

Sammy3D

I genuinely love Darkened Streams, I get so excited for them when they pop up in my feed. I’ve watched a whole two episodes of Supernatural, wasn’t my thing, but your recaps bring joy and actual laughing out loud. I’d be very sad to see it go, but I suppose we were always warned it was until YouTube shut it down.

Jeshika

I originally started watching Darkened Streams just cause it was more Grim content and good background noise. It did, however, successfully create interest, to the point where I actually got a friend of mine to start watching the series with me and DS is sort of a companion piece we watch after each episode. Being someone who usually binges through shows without a second thought, its a unique and fun way to approach watching a series. So personally, these silly little vids, where you talk about two smelly guys shooting ghosts and how X-Files is better, get me as hyped as the bigger scale releases now. I would hate to see it go permanently, but I can understand wanting to maybe take a break or change stuff around. A few people here have already echoed the sentiment, but if it was to continue on Youtube, a second channel might be a good shout. If not that, then other video platforms could potentially work. While the DS viewerbase is small, it does seem quite dedicated from what I have gauged in the comments/ discord/ twitter. so I am sure they will follow the series wherever it ends up. Hell, I wouldn't mind if it ended up as just audio on Soundcloud, worse comes to worst. I love your content and I love Darkened Streams! Hopefully you can find a way to keep it going in some form without CW biting you in the persqueeter.

Lauri Kubre

I love The X Files as much as the next man but if it's going to impose on the good thing you have going on YouTube then maybe put DS on hiatus. There are other options for getting media out there, although I don't fully understand the differences between them and YouTube. Places like LBRY, Vimeo, Nebula or curiosity stream. Not sure how your Patreon income adds up but I'm sure if you switched to a different platform you'd still keep your viewers.

Lee Stone

I support everything you do, however I'll have to break this gently to my wife - she doesn't care at all for the game-related content, but every time I there's a new episode of Darkened Streams we have to watch it immediately. So yeah, if you need to stop DS for now I'm cool with that, but I'll be always hoping there's a way for you to make it work eventually.

dalamanek

I can't wait to see what you're cooking up for this horror animatic. Your work is awesome -- some of the best on YouTube for me personally -- and it warms my jaded ass heart to see creators doing things that mean a lot to them. Also, I like Darkened Streams but I always knew the copyright system wouldn't let discourse about the X-Files stand. It's a shame the man tries to kill the things we love.

Azroix

Separate them off into another channel. It's not worth jeopardising your livelihood for. Love Streams though so I'd hate it to go away. I'm sure you've got this.

Adam Page

SAAAMY Seriously man I love the Darkened Streams, but I would hate to see YouTube actually *shutting you down*, so I get it. No need to risk it and if your time is better spent elsewhere right now, I say do it. I love to see your channel grow and maybe in the future you will have the capacity to come back to the series as a Patreon exclusive or something like that. I really like the new Grimpressions so it also wouldn’t be the biggest loss for me personally. All the best and keep up the excellent work Grim!

Ludwig

I knew nothing of Supernatural before you started making your videos on it and the show still does not interest me... but I really enjoy Darkened Streams. It's like comfort watching, a fun fifteen-minute (or so) review with a bunch of running gags I adore. It's been cool to feel like I've been a part of something from the beginning that could potentially run for a long time. But, to be brutally honest - pessimist that I am - I was never confident that you were going to make it through the whole series, whether that be through copyright issues or just burnout. I was always hopeful that I might be wrong (especially when you include scenes from future seasons where the show looks so different) but I suspected it would probably come to a stop beforehand. Even by my standards, ending it partway through S2 would definitely be a shame, but this is YouTube and everyone knows you don't want to test their rules, it's too big a risk. In summary, I'll miss Darkened Streams if you decide to stop - it feels like an early death - but nobody will blame you as long as you make your wider audience outside of Patreon aware of the reasons.

GamesBrit

Darkened Streams brings myself, and alot of others, alot of laughs and good times. But it's not worth risking the entire channel for imo if you're getting such a hard time from YT dweebs. Plus you gotta make that living somehow. I'd rather you try something else out in the mean time, could even do some music stuff on the channel for filling the void. Not to take away from the other music stuff, but could always be an option. Regardless, we all know you'll make the right choice for yourself/the channel and GothGamers will stand by your decision Grim. Really hyped for Planescape and your other project! Keep up all your hard work

Lor

I respect your commitment to the Darkened Streams episodes, but to be honest I'm not a Supernatural fan (and not really a fan of TV show episode reviews in general - mostly stopped watching Pushing Up Roses' channel when she switched to Murder She Wrote content). So on my end, I would love more Grimpressions in between the full-length episodes. You know some people will rant and rave if you shut it down, but such is life in YouTube land. :)

Joon Choi

I really like the Darkened Streams, id love to see them continue, maybe another Platform is a viable idea or you could check if making them unlisted and essentially patreon exclusive works (if that is something you want to do at all). However if the format just isnt viable and your time is better used elsewhere id say you had a good run. Would love to see you continue but i totally understand putting the "health" of the channel first. Gotta pay for that Mountain Dew somehow :)

A-LoFi

Hey Grim, maybe shifting darkened streams to another channel/platform like Vimeo or changing up the format to a audio podcast featuring multiple episodes could work? Be a shame if streams went but totally understand the concerns! Also horror piece sounds dope!
