Patreon Early Access - Dev Diary: Episode 1

So, it's been a long time coming, and I've hinted at it a couple of times - a big ol' mod is in development for CK2 co-authored by yours truly and a relatively small team of trustworthy individuals.
I go into the specifics, overview, themes etc in the video itself, so here I'll explain what the videos series it is (extremely meta, I know).

I've been mulling around the idea of doing a Patreon early access series for quite some time, I'm still stalwart in my "No Patreon exclusive content policy" but this is actually beneficial to me in that I can get a smaller, more controlled amount of feedback from a group that are more invested in the channel than your average viewer.

The idea of asking 55000+ subscribers for feedback on a mod is quite frankly a horrifying idea, but with this method, it gives me a more direct line to you guys, with a much smaller crowd, to have an actual conversation with, rather than just a round of "let's all scream at Mr Streamer".

Watch the video, and let me know what you think! If you want to give me some feedback on the actual video itself (presentation, information, etc) then please do and I can alter the way things are presented in the next Dev Diary!

Meant to make a new paragraph and not end that post XD. Anyway enhancing the core mechanics with a fantasy flare sounds like a great idea. I am sure you and your team have some great ideas, but I will throw in my two bits here. I would recommend looking into new ways to control and develop your dynasty using your new fantasy systems. A lot of how characters come out is based on breeding for traits. You addressed tweaking that to improve chances on a scale of some sort which is great. Maybe a feature of a fantasy element could involve further boosting those chances of your firstborn inheriting your traits at a cost of lower future fertility? Just spit balling there, but something like that would give incentive to dive into the new content of the mod while maintaining balance and hopefully preventing you from having to play the murder game in the case of primogeniture. The next major element of game play is the claims system. Again finding a way to work in the fantasy content to find new ways to establish claims or at least enhance the chances. Perhaps offering fantasy boons to coerce others to become your vassal is an idea as well. Enhance the core and polish to a fantasy flavored shine. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be enjoyable and well balanced. If your half as quick as talk I know it will be lol.

I have only recently discovered CK2 a few months ago. I knew it was around for a long time, but I tend to do be pretty reluctant to pick up new games. Mostly because I am a snob at this point and have honed in on a pretty specific genre and quality preference over the last twenty years I've been gaming. Now CK2 is definitely unique in the grand strategy genre because the focus is on dynasty instead of nation.

I think that dragon slaying event, the one where someone tells you and than you just kind of say "sure theres a dragon I believe you" the option where you "slay" it maybe add a small chance that there is a real dragon that you have to fight

Ser Masquerade

One thing that I always thought would be fun would be the ability to start epidemics (Perhaps as a society head and using a ritual meter that acts like the legend bar) It would be really interesting to to maybe make all provinces in a region (Realm, de Jure kingdom / empire) gain something like -20% disease resistance for 5 years to cripple them. Don't know if that would be to ham-handed even with hidden reductions for the "Count Bumfuck" level of ignorance but it is a fun idea I've always had for a more subtle form of power projection. (Plus for balance it is probably preferable to not cause too much disease to your neighbours for risk of it spreading and may be better for large-scale distant foes such as in a great holy war)

Suspicious Individual

I love that you implemented genetics2.0 like system into the mod that uses your traits. My suggestion would be to have fantasy events for giant and maybe dwarf traits.

On one hand gameplay wise the inheritance is annoying but on the other I like how ck2 has a kind of Regression to the mean like we see in real life between two smart parents
