Andor 1x05 Reaction

Andor 1x05 Reaction Andor 1x05 Reaction

Comments

I love when LM have been watching a show long enough and there is no question as to why people voted for it. They would be the first to say ‘I see why people wanted us to watch this’

Patrick

He'll definitely watch them, some of the cast, especially Denise, love watching the reactions too

E

I first found this channel watching you both on YouTube as you experienced Frieren. I do enjoy the way you both are very present and open during your time with the media you consume, and I especially appreciate the detailed reactions at the end of your videos. When I saw the first episode of Andor appear in your feed, I knew I had to subscribe. Super interested in hearing your takes on the series, both because you are both great at constructive media analysis and processing the emotions of these pieces, but because with you both having less Star Wars knowledge, I really want to experience these episodes again from the perspective of someone that doesn't have that same relationship with Star Wars as I do. I just caught up through your episode 5 reaction last night. I'm looking forward to more, and I hope this finds you both well.

The thing I love about the Star Wars Universe is that there is such a rich canvas for storytelling. At its best, you can have gritty, realistic stories of fighting oppression such as Andor existing side by side with fantastical stories of good versus evil at a galactic scale. Its a shame that various custodians of this franchise have struggled to use this canvas properly.

Arctic_stark

Cassian could identify Luthen AND his ship, The Fondor.

Mark Walston

Tony Gilroy would love these reactions.

Yeah, I guess many reactors don't want to be "political" because they're afraid to offend anyone with their opinion and scare people off their channel, but that just cuts off a significant part of this series. Plus, who are the people that seek out reactions to Andor? Probably not, like, conservatives that would be offended when you compare their political parties to the Empire. So trying not to "offend" anyone actually ends up annoying the people who are actually watching and who want to talk about the political aspect explicitly. But of course the political stuff might also fly over some people's heads... (For a wild comparison, I've also seen a similar tendency to be cagey about politics with music reactions to Rage against the Machine.) Anyway, it's great that Milena and Lola aren't like that and talk openly about about the political side of the series.

It’s small, but your first point still is a bit of a spoiler, no?

SwampFox95

I know this is random but the discussion around Mon and her daughter reminded me of another reactor’s discussion who was making an argument that has lived rent free in my mind. She was defending Grisha’s treatment of Zeke from AoT because it was for a cause of fighting oppression and fascism. She went on to compare him to Nelson Mandela, which is an analogy that doesn’t fit imo because Nelson chose to not have a relationship with his son because of what he was fighting for, while Grisha was sacrificing his son for what he was fighting for. Mon sacrificing her relationship with her daughter is the cost for her moving forward to fight this system. But she’s not telling her daughter she needs to fight for this too. As you said it’s unfortunate that she’s just around her dad all the time, who has some privileged opinions about the state of the galaxy.

I also love Nemik’s line “They’ll soon see. A surprise from above is never as shocking as one from below.” God Tier writing!

Just a small point: I think when Luthen says that he wasn't careful with Andor, he doesn't necessarily mean the necklace. Luthen and Kleya (his assistant) mention that Vel and Cassian are the only ones that know and could identify him. This is also (I assume) why Vel and Luthen told Cassian never to speak about Luthen with the others (and neither does Vel) and why they met far away from the others when Luthen brought Cassian. The others don't know Luthen so the whole thing can only traced back to him through Vel or Cassian. I don't think the necklace itself is, like, an unicum that could lead one to Luthen (even if it might hold special, personal meaning for him), it's just worth a lot because of the cyber (which others here have already explained).

The next arc starts with episode 8. It's my favorite to be honest.

Robert Dirk H.

glad the nemik scene resonated with them as much as it did it. andor has so many moments like that are so reflective of history and our reality that's it's impossible not to relate to our own geopolitical moment. i think it's what makes the series so impactful rn and i'm glad to hear them engage with its political allusions in the review. i've seen a fair share of reactions to this series and find too many beat around the bush or just ignore parallels it's drawing especially with regards to the mechanisms of fascism, imperialism etc.

windyMelon

So glad you two finally got to Andor!

Mark Walston

“Its easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident” pardon me while i drool over this show’s writing nonstop 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Daniel Molina

Don't take less than 50,000 for it.

Michael M

A piece of general non-spoiler info, if you're still curious, is that a kyber crystal (the crystal Luthen gave Andor that was worth "30,000 credits") is what powers a lightsaber. That's why it's a recognizable and valuable item.

Jordan Malloy

The Wire days were the best. It sparked very interesting discussions in the comments

HenryM

This arc is truly a perfectly constructed & paced piece of television. Not only does it contain the buildup, attention to detail, and character competency that you want from a heist mission, but from a broader story standpoint, it also contains pitch perfect emotional stakes and thematic symbolism.

Father of the Year

The dialogue is my favourite part of Andor it’s what makes it so immersive and impactful

Jesse S

I love The Wire callback in the discussion. Ahhh, I miss the old days of The Wire. But, "the thing about the old days, is they the old days."

Michael M

I'm not sure which is harder, us having to wait a week for the next episode or y'all having to wait 2 weeks to start the next arc. Also: "Skeet" LOL. That has a very specific meaning in English slang.

Hollow

Seeing you get emotional about Nemik’s lines makes me so happy for the rest of your reactions. This show is so good

Sam

It's one of the most depressing shots in the entirety of Star Wars tbh. In the grand scheme of things he's not even on that low of a level of the planet, and that's the amount of sun that he gets. Him looking up for that small amount of brightness in the morning, you know a person in that situation has one of two ways out: You either join the machine, or you die under it.

Eric

I love love love Nemik’s quote about the pace of repression. “ It's easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident.” I find myself pulling that quote out once a week—on account of all the atrocities 😅

hman70

The writers said how that opening shot with Syril Karn sitting in his room with the stormtrooper action figures where he’s looking out the window for the seven seconds of sunlight his room gets in the day is everything you need to know about his character.

My Toasty Toast

i almost called myself clementine until i realised it would be shorted to "clem" 😑

Kara

I think Lola remembers but yes it's 7, then 8/9/10, then 11/12.

Kara

the show would be great even if it "only" had good writing. it's legit shocking it also has great everything else - performance, cinematography, music, set design, fx etc etc etc. I'm still stunned it exists, I'm still gagged that Disney paid for this.

Kara

I have a similar thing. I'll remember minute details about a conversation I had with someone at a party a year ago, but I can't remember their name. it's so cringe.

Kara

I can’t get over how Lola remembers Nemik’s dialogue word for word but can’t remember his name lmao. Can't wait for the next one

HenryM

This entire episode is a great example of how succinct the writing in Andor is. Flaming pen gifs all over the place. So many lines just grab you by the chest when you hear them, it’s a line you’ve never heard but you’ve known it your whole life.

Patrick

I love how much you’re loving this. This will probably be my favorite reaction of yours by the end. Also yeah Nemik only drops gems every time he speaks

BigJo H

The disrespect for the name Clem which is short for Clementine, a beautiful name and a great fruit.

JC

Just a note that when it comes to season 1, the arcs aren't quite perfect increments of 3. Episode 7 is more standalone and buildup, then 8-10 are a clear arc, then 11-12. Season 2 is much more clearly defined by its three-episode increments!

Myeh

show drops in 2 weeks, still don't really know what its about, bravo vince (dont spoil me if you know pls)

Kara

As someone who grew up as the only child of a single narcissistic parent, Syril’s dynamic with his mother hits reaaaaally close to home. It’s an extremely accurate depiction of narcissistic parental abuse. And the way Syril deals with it — by basically living inside his own head and constantly seeking external validation — is extremely common for children of narcissists. That’s why I can never bring myself to hate Syril. He just feels too pitiful and pathetic to me.

Julmor

Hola! Y’all see the trailer for the new vince Gilligan show with Rhea Seehorn aka Kim from Better Call Saul as the main character? You two gonna watch it? Either on here or just for yourselves? Stoked for this! https://youtu.be/hZX4IgShvg0?si=QNpLYeD0WDC1asj8
