Rope is the Swiss Army Knife of BDSM

Rope is an inferior form of bondage. That’s what my 2015 self said. I even wrote it into a post, which shot up to K&P like a Mentos bomb. Everyone agreed: A top with real power didn’t need to tie you down. He could control you with his words alone.

My friend, the rope top, smiled to himself. I’ll bet I know what he was thinking: “I’ll show her.”

So he did.

It was a revolutionary experience. With all my limbs bound in jute, I got it. I finally understood why rope bunnies are so committed to their practice. It’s worth it. Rope can be anything: a flogger to hit you with… a torture device to tease you with… a gravity toy to float you with… a mindfuck tool to send you to the closest asylum. It can make you feel contained, agonised, and everything in between.

It’s also inexplicably delicious.

I’m not fancy like a real rope bunny, but I have learned that rope tops don’t use jute to make up for their lack of dominance. They use it because it offers their dominance infinite possibilities. You need that much potential if you’re a nuanced, creative player. I’ve only been tied four times, but I chose pilates as my exercise of choice because one day I’ll marry a ropey guy named Tom Hardy who will require the flexibility.

So you don’t want me to sit in a corner because you chained me there, but because you told me to? Yes, I’ve heard this argument before, and it misses the facts. It takes enormous trust to be trussed up in stress positions. That rope bottom isn’t there because she was tied there. She’s there because she knew her top would take care with her body. Rope isn’t an excuse, but a beautiful tool with enough utility to embarrass a Swiss Army Knife.
