TROA) Bomb Shelter Part 2
Added 2023-09-27 04:09:40 +0000 UTC“We can not make that decision quickly.” The man replied. “Can you wait outside? I will come up and give you the answer after We have decided..”
“That’s fine.” I have a strong feeling I will be rejected. While these people look hungry and are suffering, none of them looked at me with any hope. I can also not force people to follow me. Well, I could, but I won’t. It’s their lives, their free wills. I will not take away their right to decide whether they live or die.
I sat outside and looked out over the base that was probably once filled with military personnel. A place that was once used to protect this country was now nothing more than a picture-perfect image of what an apocalypse looked like.
The hot day baked the land, drying up what plants were still alive. I do not know how many more years this planet could take of this kind of heat. The air was like walking in Death Valley on the hottest days of summer. It was stifling. I could only relax here due to the clothing my mother made and the fact that I was probably not even human anymore.
I leaned back on the ground with my hands on the back of my head and stared up into the sky. The haze of the heat blocked most of the color, but it was still there for the most part.
“Miss.” A voice came from the stairwell.
I got up and stretched before walking over to the stairs. The main stood at the bottom and shook his head. “We will stay. We still have enough food to sustain us for a year, even if it means only a small bit of food per day. Please close the door back up and allow us to face what is to come on our own.”
I sighed. Not the answer I wanted but somewhat expected. “I will not force anything. But just know that I will come back every week to check on you. But just know at some point, the weather will turn ice cold. I will be sure to come to check on you again. I can even bring you some supplies during this time. Mr…..” I looked at the soldier and gave him a salute. “Take care of the people. Humanity needs to push through and survive. But for now, take this.”
I took out a large supply of water and carried it down to the man. “It is not much, but it is all I have on me at this time. I will be back in a week with more things. Just try to stay alive. All of you.”
The man’s eyes began to tear up. He nodded and bowed his head to me. “Your kindness will allow us to stay strong.”
I smiled and patted his shoulder. “I will seal the door up. It’s best not to go out at night, either. The area is barren. Do you have enough food to last for another five days if you were to give everyone bigger meals?”
“Yes. But if we did that, we would not have enough food….” I interrupted the man.
“Feed your people. You have children here, too. Feed them all. Give them enough to eat to fill their stomachs so they are not going hungry anymore. Food, water, everything else I can supply it to you. Once a week I will come and check on all of you. And take this.” I handed over a small device. “This is a com. It will relay messages to my surveillance room. It uses a special wavelength that the bots can’t scramble. So, no matter what, I will receive a message. It’s just that there is a small delay of five seconds between broadcasts. So if you need anything between then and now, let me know.”
“Thank you. I will keep it safe.” I watched as the man treated the small com I gave him as if it were a national treasure. I smiled and bid my farewell. “I am sealing this door up. No one will be able to come and go after this. Only I will be able to open it.”
“I know, and thank you.” The man nodded. With that, I turned around and walked up the stairs. I planned to feed a lot of people anyway, and we already had crops growing at a steady pace with the alterations that my mother made to the seeds. It’s kind of funny how quickly new tech can be created and brought from fantasy to reality. And mainly, this is all because no money is involved. Everything is being done for a reason. Progression of the human race was being stalled out because of money.
As a species, we should be willing to work together for the better of mankind and not because something that could be helpful to the world will not produce money type deal. This kind of bullshit has always pissed me off. Space is not profitable, so we will not invest in going into space. Curing cancer is not a good idea because the companies that lobby us will not give us their money if we approve of this. This went for every damn country out there. They were all the same in this aspect.
Humans needed a damn apocalypse to happen to understand this concept. And even still, these things will probably never disappear.
