TROA) A Promise
Added 2023-09-23 04:28:07 +0000 UTC“Ai, is what you said true?” My mother asked. Her expression said it all. She was utterly shocked.
“Yes, there is a humanoid robot out there roaming around learning things,” I explained. I then turned to Jen and said: “When you go out to check the cameras around the base, be extra careful.”
“I will.” Jen nodded seriously. I had asked her to just stay in the base, but she did not seem to want to listen. She said since I was out trying to rescue survivors that, she could at least risk going outside to check the cameras and make sure there was nothing wrong with the trees they were attached to.
To be honest, I almost told her no. But when I thought about it. It did make sense. If I were to leave things to how they normally would be, there is a chance one of the trees the cameras were on would be burnt to a crisp. We already made a special cooling chamber that used sunlight to keep them cool. My father was quick in making something that could battle the heat for them. These were essential first defense cameras anyway. As soon as they started to mess up, we would have to go on red alert.
“I will try to make a few sets of clothing that will adjust to the temperature outside.” My mother announced. I could see her doing calculations in her head already. She had always been like this.
“I will be counting on you then. When I get to a high enough level, I might be able to fend off the heat myself, but right now, I can’t last more than a day, maybe by myself. I do wonder if any animals will survive this, though.” With this heat, the trees and other plants were slowly withering away. I am sure many animals have died off already, but many are probably in hiding, too. But for how long can they last like that? One year? Maybe two? How long would the heat last? And if it suddenly gets cold, would they be able to survive that?
I had many more questions now but no answers, sadly. I let out a sigh. “Ai, you okay?”
“Yeah, I am just trying to figure out why they want to do all of this. I know they want resources and whatnot, but why exterminate the entire population of beings? What does this do for them? I kind of wish I had asked these questions.” I was stupid. I was told she could answer one question, but I asked the stupidest of them all. Maybe if there is a next time, I will try to get more information out of her. I do not think that this will be the last time I run into her, either.
“No, I think you asked the right thing, or we would not have been aware of what was to come. In fact, you might have saved us from many deaths.” My mother was right, I guess, but still. “Anyway, for now, I will get your father to help me come up with a method to make these new clothes.”
I watched as my mother got up and rushed to the lab. Once she started on something, we would not see her for a few days. “Jen, you are in charge of the kids while I am away. Make sure they got food to eat.”
“I will take care of it.” Jen nodded as she got up. “Ai, if you are going back out, be careful. Do not do anything that will cause you harm.”
I smiled and gave Jen a kiss on the lips. “Don’t worry my little wife. I will be sure to stay safe no matter what.” Jen blushed and gave me a little nod. She was just too cute!
I walked out of the room where I was met with Michell standing there fidgeting. “Little Princess, what is wrong?”
“Are you going out again?” Michell asked while looking up at me with her big, watery eyes. I really did not know what to say because I was afraid of hurting her feelings. I do not know why she became so attached to me, but every time I was home, she would come running.
“I have to go back out and save more people. Right now there are people out there suffering. If I do not help them, then who will?” I asked softly as I knelt down and placed my hand on her head. “I will be back as soon as I can but I will be doing this every day for a while. Sometimes, I will be gone for more than a day or two. So if you need anything, just find Jen, okay?”
“Okay…..” Michell was doing her best to hold back her tears. I could tell.
I sighed and pulled her into a hug. “I will be back, so don’t worry. No one is stronger than me. When I get back we will have a sleepover.”
“Really?” Looking at her sudden change in mood, I smiled and nodded.
“Yep! I will even read you a story. And we can cuddle all night!” I replied.
“Yay!” Michell’s lips finally curled up into a big smile as she hugged my neck and kissed my cheek. “I will be waiting, so you have to come back. It’s a promise!”
