The UK’s Online Safety Act and Our Infographics

Some of you may have heard about the UK’s Online Safety Act (OSA). In short, this law was introduced to make the internet “safer,” but its scope goes far beyond that, it requires online platforms to verify the ages of people viewing content, even when those platforms are just hosting images or external embeds.

We use Imgur to host infographics for our mod descriptions. Unfortunately, Imgur doesn’t comply with the OSA, and as far as we can tell, no image host currently does. It’s simply impossible for a hosting site to check the IDs of everyone viewing an image embedded on another website.

What We’re Doing Going Forward

We don’t plan on changing where we host our images, but to make sure everyone can still access them:

We’ll keep adapting as best as we can, but the best long-term solution is for UK players to make their voices heard. Please reach out to your MPs and let them know how the OSA is negatively affecting communities like ours.

Comments

Gotta love censorship… good thing UK laws don’t affect the US. Whaddya mean the internet is worldwide and what one government does ripples across the globe? The redcoats don’t think that happens, so therefore it must not!

literally makes no sense that the labour gov even went through with this, i know the cons started it and all, but passing it through has simply given people like me a reason to never vote labour again.
