A Brand New World... I mean post

Hey wow it's already another month and I'm not just typing to the void hoping that they'll eventually be people here, there actually are people here now!

Ok so these posts are gonna typically be about 3 things:

1) How the past month went

2) What I wanna do in the near future

3) How my life is going in general (if you care)

1) January was a good month for me

My channel has been doing pretty good, fairly steady growth and a bump from that crazy time I was YouTube’s “Gaming Creator on the Rise” where a few of my videos were selected to be on the Trending page. That was an odd thing to happen but it was pretty neat I guess.

So I've uploaded 3 videos in January: The Ranno commercial for Symbiote studios, the Rivals Workshop Community choice review video, and finally the Let's Play with Stefan and Miranda where we play against the Ronald MCdonald AI and we play literal Tetris.

Ranno Plush Commercial:

So just to get this out of the way I will not be posting any more of my Symbiote Commercials to my channel, they don't do very well and I assume mostly because the Lovecraftian Elder God we call the Youtube Algorithm doesn't like tiny 30 second videos. So what I plan to do there instead is just wait till I get a bunch of them made and upload them all together as a longer video.

Also just to be clear, these videos aren't because of a sponsorship, I don't have to upload them to my channel at all. I am paid to make the videos by the Symbiote people for their twitter, and because I'm friends with them, so I'm only paid to make them not to promote them. I also have full creative control on how the videos turn out, and they're really fun to make which is why I wanted to upload them in the first place.

Reviewing Every Custom Character in Rivals of Aether:

I decided to do a rapid fire review video as a change of pace compared to the previous workshop reviews where I just take a small handful of characters, and boy was it way more work than I expected. I probably will never do that format again because it was a lot of mental strain trying to accurately get a feel for each character in a much shorter time frame. And for now I wanna take a small break from Workshop reviews because I’m sorta burnt out on it, at least with editing these type of videos. For now I’ll be doing workshop reviews every other sunday on stream.

Literal Tetris in Rivals of Aether:

Ever since the Everything Wrong with Rivals of Aether video I discovered that what’s most successful with my channel are the talky videos, so since then I’ve leaned harder into doing more videos in that format, but I’ve always loved doing gameplays with Stefan and Miranda. Historically with my channel the let’s plays have always performed much worse, but this let’s play is probably my most successful one not counting the two previous ones which were randomly selected to be on the trending page when I was the Gaming Creator on the Rise. Anyway, in short, I’m very happy with how it performed especially because it was a video where Stefan, Miranda, and myself talk about AI, banging Jude Law and Jean Dujardin, and me being bad a Tetris.

2) What my next couple of videos will be and what I want to make:

Ok so where do I go from here? Well I’ve already recorded a let’s play with Stefan, where Stefan does more Melee Target test stuff. It is a wild ride for sure and I can’t wait to start editing it. And the subject of that video relates to what I want to start doing with my channel which is getting away from Rivals of Aether. Wait what?! No!? Oh my god?! Ok hold on, I don’t mean I’m gonna stop making Rivals stuff, just that I do want to spice it up with more non Rivals content.

I am not immune to the dreaded Youtuber burn out. It’s not that I don’t want to make Rivals videos, it’s that I don’t want to ONLY make Rivals videos, simply because I don’t like doing the same thing over and over. That being said, I know that non rivals videos on my channel don’t do very well and I understand that. I love all video games, but most of the people that watch my channel don’t actually watch for me, they watch because they want to see Rivals things. I am very grateful, thankful, and lucky that people do watch me at all for any reason, but if I want YouTube to be a serious thing then I have to start growing an audience that watches for me and not just for the game. So basically the plan is to slowly transition by putting out videos that are related to Rivalsy stuff so that they do well, but also hopefully show my audience that I’m a funny ha ha man for any type of game.

What I would want to do is itch.io randomizers, steam queue videos, and something something comic books, but I now realize that trying to force people to watch the crazy things I like will not work. I instead am finding a happy middle ground with games like Melee where it’s different, but still related. So I’m going to be looking into other Platform fighters and the like, so if yall have ideas on games like that I’m open to suggestions.

That being said, I do have a bunch of ideas for Rivals related stuff. I’m going to attempt to squeak out next week a talky video about the Definitive Edition teaser that dropped at G7, and I want to do a let’s play where I play against Stefan in Rivals, but the twist is I’m using a Guitar Hero controller.

3) Life is hard but not that hard (I'm a very lucky person)

My emotional state very closely, and probably very unhealthily, tied directly to how I perceive my channel is doing, but that means right now I’m feeling pretty great and optimistic. Really ever since the Everything Wrong with Rivals video, I’ve been fairly confident that it’s not really a matter of if I can succeed at YouTube, but a matter of when, and if that when is before I get too old.

My job is actually going really well and pretty easy, although I’ve taken on more hours so I can like, buy a video game every once in a while, and it is unfortunate that it does affect how often I can actually edit videos. My current goal is at the very least 1 video every 2 weeks, and in reality I’m sorta doing 3 because I’m making a Symbiote commercial every month. And sometimes my job also hires me to do editing work, so the main struggle these days is just finding the right balance between work and making funny ha ha videos, which honestly I am really grateful for because even if I’m not yet the YouTuber I want to be, my life could be much worse because at least I’m not a Koala in Australia who’s contracted the Coronavirus.

Anyway to sum it all up my beard is starting to actually look like how I want it to, and in the end isn’t that all that really matters?

In conclusion I hope there was something in this mountain of text that you found interesting. And if you want to know about something else in these posts feel free to let me know or ask in the Discord cause I have one of those too.

Thanks for reading and remember to flip your flops.
