I agree and Bentons stance on errors paid off massively in this instance, as the low level member dared to admit his mistake/loss and as such forewarning Benton of the coming way how their enemies plan to lure him into the ambush.

I do like that Benton's approach to his sect thwarted the ambush. His sect members feel they can admit fault, and so he gets warning.

The fact they didn't even think to replace the ring with a fake shows that this whole lure him into an ambush plan was doomed from the onset even more than anything else

Thanks for the chapter! Well I kinda called it. Then again who knows... Could be that he was UNWITTINGLY used as a pawn (some war faction schemer intentionally picked this guy to come expecting him to date her and use that... blabla more drama XD) Now I do wonder 🤔🤔🤔 how they will get together... Never mind that our girl "Miss Most Important Admistrator of the entire sect beside the strongest man on the continent"... is certainly NEVER going to have trouble finding a million willing lovers for her future reverse harem of good scribes who do her work for her... but it's just to fluffy and funny for these two to get together after Benton... "prunes the enemy sects" (committing ethnic cleansing of anyone golden core and above just sounds so much meaner)

lol.... I'm sorry this comment shows insane emotional immaturity. Bringing up your dead wife when the women questions "why are you dating me when you were married" is the fucking only thing he could do. Your second comment blows my mind even more... "especially if that women just does her die diligence in a dangerous world". I honestly always find it hilarious when normal people (like you and me) like to pretend to "know what is obvious common sense/due dilligence/good or bad social behavior for this specific scenarios in this specific fantasy world... What he did wrong? well he was fucked pretty hard by the timing. He probably wasn't aware of the ambush soo... it was mostly him being unlucky. He didn't actually do anything to indicate any "red flags" in that conversation. When dating someone and another asks the question "are you married" it's literally the ONLY emotional mature and normal thing to do, to then TELL THE SIMPLE TRUTH.
