February ’24 Update

It’s been a crazy few months but I’m starting to get back to something that resembles normal, so hopefully back to business as usual. This month I have an exciting 3rd party software release, and a return to regular livestreams and newsletters.

I gave my patrons an update on my situation a few weeks ago. Essentially, my wife and I have just moved house and welcomed our first child within the space of a few weeks. The buildup was stressful. Moving into a new house that’s in need of a lot of renovation with a newborn baby has been all consuming. That’s why I have been very quiet for the last little while.

One thing I have been doing recently has been working with SexLikeReal, who have been very supportive of my work. It’s great to see a device like the OSR2 getting recognition and support from both the community and from a big established player as well.

SLR are getting into “haptics” (ie content synced toys) themselves. They are working on a stroker device of their own and they have also now tossed their hat into the OSR2 firmware arena. There are already two excellent alternative (and frankly better than the official offering at this point) firmware options for the ESP32 OSR2 from GeekFantasy and Khrull. Now there is a third offering from SLR.

SLR’s firmware offering is free to use and it works via Serial, BLE, or WiFi. It’s closed source (for this reason it will never be the official firmware for the OSR2) but it is also super easy to install on the ESP32 via an online configurator. This means no messing about with binaries or Arduino IDE! It is also being developed to have seamless integration with SLR’s online platform.

Go and check it out and give it a go. It’s early days, so expect new features to be added over time. SLR would love to get some feedback on this and those of you who are patrons can do so over on the Discord server. I have set up a thread for this in the #Software-Exchange channel.

With regards to my own work, I now have my new office set up and I have been working on the squeezer mechanism. Let’s see if I can get an alpha version of that out next month. I still have several design problems to overcome with that one.

I have been set up to livestream again for the last week or so, but unfortunately I have been suffering from a throat infection and haven’t really felt up to doing a lot of talking. I will, however, do a livestream before the end of the month, so watch Discord for that.
