December Update

Hi Guys,

It’s time for an update on what I’ve been up to recently. This month we have an anniversary, some page changes, and the full release of SR6 Beta.

First of all today is a special day for me because it’s the two year anniversary of the day that I first set up this Patreon page. It’s been one heck of a journey, and not something that I ever expected. At the time I had just put out for free the cutout plans for a plywood contraption called OSR3, and I was just responding to a couple of people who wanted to slip me a few dollars as a thankyou!

As a celebration of two years of Tempesting I am going to share something. Back in February I shared publicly the original OSR2 plans on Thingiverse, where it has been downloaded over 1,200 times! As of today I am going to share the pitch module. This will make what I call the “OSR2+”, a three axis stroker robot, free and open source. Link here.

For this occasion I also have a couple of changes I want to announce. Those of you who have been on discord recently will know that I now have a rather cool desk camera setup. I used this to do some live streaming whilst I was recording the latest video blog and I really enjoyed the experience. So if you’re a patron of mine do get yourself on the discord server because I expect to be doing more streams, particularly as I put together the SR6 assembly instructions in the near future.

The other change I will be making is that i will be adding a new, higher, membership tier to my Patreon at $16. The main reason for this is that I have had several people sign up for considerably more than $8 and I would like to recognise their contributions. I will not be releasing hardware to this tier; that will stay at $8. Instead I will likely be doing some exclusive hangouts and livestreams. For example I might do such things as some interactive tuition on using Fusion 360 or Arduino IDE. I’m open to suggestions.

Christmas is less than three weeks away, but I’ve set myself the goal of releasing the build plans for the SR6 Beta before then on the $8 tier. As those of you who are my patrons will know, the SR6 Beta is the clean-sheet redesign of the main enclosure of my 6-axis stroker robot. This new design goes together much more easily than the Alpha design, and has a lot more space inside. I have also release a design for links that use rod end bearings, which are much slicker than the old wiring grommets.

Of course, if you can’t wait for the build plans and just want to get stuck in building an SR6 Beta, all of the part STLs and firmware are already available on the $8 tier.

I will also definitely be doing a livestream and video blog this month. I’m thinking that I will make an SR6 power bus live on stream, with emphasis on how to do the soldering. That will be available on the $2 tier.

As always I want to say a big thank you to all of you who support my work. It’s thanks to you guys that I am able to put in the hours needed to create these designs and share them.

Here’s to the next 2 years!

Tempest.

Two years is a rather significant figure, no doubt you have achieved a lot during this time, the main thing is not to stop and move on! Good luck!
