Once upon a time, there was a girl who wrestled with the societal construct of what ‘beauty’ is. She owned her uniqueness, her one-of-a-kind-ness, and before anyone could comment, pre warned them that she was ‘an acquired taste’.

Upon reflection that was the equivalent of an oxymoron. If ‘owning it’, why the disclaimer?

Because, ultimately a life time belief system of force fed standards, ideals and measures of success wore her down.

Then she entered into an anonymous space of being accepted sight unseen. Being acknowledged and even appreciated for values other than her appearance. And whilst those that she shared the ‘reveal’ with heaped praise and adoration, she still knew that, within her own mind, she was different.

Three years later, she is quietly sharing. Not so scared anymore. Sure, she isn’t what she was 10 years ago. The achievements however, they are still achievements and she is slowly beginning to love her physical self. This self that has accomplished so very much. If only she could tell you all.

But she won’t. Because it’s not about you or your response. It’s a conversation with herself. And perhaps it’s watching a Korean competition on Netflix that makes her realise…she is perfect…for her…

How’s the serenity?

I’ve run away for the weekend to the local hinterland, fresh mountain air, limited internet and nothing but a comfy bed and a couple of books.

Some of you are aware of a little online trolling that happened at the end of last week, specifically directed at my profile. Initially I thought it was my stalker of the last two years but now I’m not so sure. Friends and family know that I have a delayed onset when it comes to conflict or trauma and this was evident at the end of the week. My standard practice of ‘responding not reacting’ was put to the test, but I did just that. Responded, didn’t react. However, after some time, the ‘react’ part kicks in. This planned trip away couldn’t have come at a better time.

I appreciate the intentions of those of you who commented. Report, block, delete. And repeat if necessary. In this online, digital world, protect yourself. Try not to engage. Believe me, I know that can be difficult at times. When it is, perhaps focus on responding, not reacting.

It’s one of those nights. One of those nights where the thoughts and worries run wild through your mind. Where sleep seems to get more and more out of reach with every passing second. But in the midst of all the chaos in your head and the silence surrounding you, there is someone reminding you that you are not alone.

There's something about wings and fairies and the fae that has always appealed to me.  That and the dance of a flame in a fireplace.  Subsequently, developing this persona, this profile of Wkdfaerie came very naturally.  I love the juxtaposition of wickedness with the touch of the fairy and likewise the heat of a flame providing comfort and warmth but will burn you if you get too close.

I recently had my 'Cake Day' on Reddit, three years since my first post and it prompted a time of reflection about what I've done, what I'm doing and what I am hoping to do moving forward.  Whilst I'm not entirely sure, there are certainly avenues I would like to explore, both new and existing but none of it would be possible without your ongoing support and encouragement.  

So thank you.  I am humbled and beyond grateful to all of you who are here.
