They didn't do sheet steel yet at that time. As a modern solution, fine & dandy, but period choices would have been soft iron or copper wire, or leather lace, silk ribbon, etc.

The guy who does the Guns of the West YT channel has his own paper cartridge forming tools now; I forget if he is on Etsy or eBay; hold my moose-milk while I go & check... https://www.etsy.com/shop/GunsOfTheWest The benefit being he's stateside, vs. ordering from Cap&Ball, who's in Yurp... ;-)

So you're saying "Get the Pietta, tear it down & Kasenit all the screws, & reassemble?" ;-)

I am going to try to create some time to tell some of Colt's story here and there. Bit of a challenge!

I have not had a change to handle many minty Colts sadly. So I couldn't say!

I would have used a spring clip that went around the barrel, and would pinch the handle on both sides to retain it, just a formed strip of metal, possibly with a little alignment pin somewhere to keep the spring from moving around.

There was a book about a decade ago called Killer Colt that was about his brother John but had some interesting Sam stuff in it.

After listening to this episode, I’d be interested in an Unloaded about Colt’s life much like you did the last Unloaded talking about R. L. Wilson. Also, if you advertised some of the tiers for Patreon more often at the end of your videos, ie. “For $1 you can get access to the podcast where we talk about think like...” etc., it may generate more patrons. I know you’ve done it before in previous videos, but maybe like every other episode or so. Just an idea and you may have already thought of this.

I am liking this Reprocussion thing, it's like a Primer but more different-er. Now this Colt Cutlass thinger has my attention, how is it not an overused prop in more properties...

BTW you're a terrible influence on my budgeting decisions. I just bought a Uberti Remington repro in .36 to go with my Pietta 1851 Army and my Uberti Walker. Now I'll be shopping for a .36 cartridge kit from Eras Gone By or Cap and Ball and a .36 mold, etc.

Would you make a recommendation on a good Samuel Colt biography? "Colorful" seems like a vast understatement.

I am rather enjoying this delve into percussion cap firearms. It is more engaging than obscure WWI neutral powers rifles. You do owe us the big finally on WWI weapons, and you know what that is.... I know it's the most vaunted of all handguns in history. But you have to do that last one, to shut the door on WWI firearms.

I also enjoy the series. The series seems more like a history story where you are delving into the personalities of the characters with the history. Just seems easier and a little more enjoyable to follow. Maybe because Othias is becoming a good story teller! Question: How similar to is the fit and finish of the original Colts to today's reproductions?

I believe pietta still makes Patterson repos, and Pietta's quality has risen significantly in the past few years, they still use steel that's way too soft for the screws but it's not as bad as it used to be.
