Update: Nope!

We're stuck waiting for February I guess, but I doubt it will go well.

Update: Nope!

Comments

New one here. If youtube cut off yout money, its time to pay directly.

Salvador Belda

Yep - the timing of that would be right as I first read it around 1980. I'm also a big fan of "Sturgeon's law/revelation". C+Rsenal is part of the 10% of everything that is NOT crap.

The earliest attested references to the principle as "X's Razor" are all "Hanlon's," and has been attributed to a Robert Hanlon, who allegedly contributed it to a humor book. Heinlein did say something to a similar effect in one of his books, but so have a variety of other people, going back centuries.

Christopher James Henry

Love you guys. Hope you persevere. Continued support on Patreon

Gregory Matteson

Heinlein, I think you meant...

Bruce Brodnax

I wish you the best of luck and in the meantime upped my contribution.

Markus B.

#Me too joined up because another great show is being demonetized sorry it took so long , don't let this get you down guys and keep up the great work

matt kester

I'm with you brother...new patreon guy

Chris Marchi

I never joined Patreon until a few minutes ago, and it was because of their recent actions against your content.

Greg Gruenenfelder

Just added to those channels I support via Patreon, 'cause the 'woke' YT can GTH.

Wayne S.

Well... I'm a GERMAN, we have rules for pretty much everything (but actually fairly liberal gun-laws for Europe)... and this is insane even by German standards... so I had no choice but becoming a patreon preventivley, already one for Forgotten Weapons, pretty much for the same "providing at least a little backup" notion... Youtube has been behaving ever so slightly... eerr... well... *degenerate* (fumes) in the past years... Best of luck in keeping this up! Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Raoul Kunz

Yes but the Part 1 would be monetized and making money. Since the Part 2 is demonetized, it really does not matter how many people watch it. Remember, this is one video with the "evil" parts removed and put in a separate video for the diehard fans.

Doc53

Well however this turns out you've gained at least one pateron.

Michael K Jones

ProTip: Clapping is illegal in California. YouTube is run by the very same mentally challenged individuals. Get an ad blocker for YouTube and take away their money.

Tiger in man's clothing

Reflectin on the video removed makes me wonder about a conversation with someone, a rabid anti-gunner yeat aficionado of first-person shooter video game and fan of action movies and their lack of understanding of what makes up how a firearm operates. The question I have is maybe the footage of Mae loading the pan magazine on the Lewis gun constituted "manufacturing" or "reloading" ammunition, or in their terms, 'bullets." Sounds dumb, I know, but try thinking about misconceptions and misapprehensions that seem to be found in the comments anti-gunners have made before.

Charles Adams

Paying customers (advertersers) can do whatever they want. The sold commodity (viewers) need to keep their eyes on the ads, accomplished by spacing ads with :content." Content creators are allowed to sharecrop so long as they are good (safe) for business. Risks to safe cashflow are not justifiable to YT.

Andrey Gardner

It has been said that part 2 gets less than half the views of part 1, effectively not woth it.

Andrey Gardner

I'm a big fan of Hanlon's Razor - "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". Patreon level increased.

John S Wren

Yet Youtube advertise to rent or buy (with lots of clips free to view) action movies full of cool looking gunfire, extreme violence and deaths for example John Wick or Terminator. Perhaps if you stuck in a car chase and an unbelievable plot full of semi clad babes you might get away with it.

Stuart Burton

Unfortunately, all the firearms videos are reviewed periodically by YouTube employees. If you get an employee who is rabidly anti-gun or any-history (don't laugh, there are more people in the Cali tech industry like that then you think), then you've got two "death strikes" against you. Add to the fact that so many or YouTubes employees have so context with firearms outside of movies and especially video games where the firearm is a tool of mindless destruction and murder/killing it's no wonder so many people are now in hidden positions where their lack of education and experience affects so many people adversely. This is why the US government's actions in the late 2000's was so destructive to free speech.

Charles Adams

Here's a letter i have written to YouTube: January 10, 2020 YouTube, LLC 901 Cherry Ave. San Bruno, CA 94066 USA Re: Please restore monetization and content of C&Rsenal https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClq1dvO44aNovUUy0SiSDOQ Hi folks I am a subscriber to the YouTube channel C&Rsenal, which provides very high quality historical content about historical military small arms (handguns, rifles, machine-guns) and I am writing to ask that you restore their monetization and the video or videos that have been removed. There has been a claim that C&Rsenal content violates YouTube standards, however I believe this claim to be completely false. On the contrary, they provide actual research, carefully created photography and analysis, and generally very serious historical content. C&Rsenal content is widely recognized by serious professionals and hundreds of thousands of historically-minded viewers as a creator of first-class academic content. I urge you to reconsider. Sincerely yours, Matisse Enzer Cc: Ashley Hlebinsky, Curator Cody Firearms Museum, Buffalo Bill Center of the West

Matisse Enzer

That seems like a real possibility.

Matisse Enzer

YouTube, LLC 901 Cherry Ave. San Bruno, CA 94066 USA https://www.wikihow.com/Contact-YouTube#Sending-Mail-to-YouTube_sub As to why they would care: I think also publicizing the letter writing in other media would help. Post a copy of the letter on twitter, facebook, send to your favorite big news site, etc.

Matisse Enzer

I too increased my pledge amount, though if YouTube persists with this absurdity just bypassing their money handlers won’t solve the problem.

Wm LukePriest

Ugh. I've upped my pledge by a couple of dollars a month hoping it'll help somehow. Tough times.

Pete Conneely

First off you sound a bit shaken.. don’t worry mate you are in the right and I still believe your content is so good on just a historical level you will get your own channel and platform before long. It’s all been up there and seen by millions, you’ve done enough work already to make yourselves legendary history types Re: YouTube, don’t start wars you can’t win, don’t overly provoke them. If really the only way to correspond with them is fucking Twitter LOL they are even more ridiculous than I thought. Their ads are becoming unbearable and I’m starting to look elsewhere & I’m sure I’m not on my own Fucking Twitter ..... Jesus I might up my Patreon subscription just for that detail. Can you upload a video of May unloading a Browning 50cal at that blue bird logo? Idiot social media ignorance is what’s dragging the world to hell, not historical detail

chris hodgson

Platforms like Youtube and Facebook are amenable to being weaponized against their ideological opponents.

Christopher Hunt

Mmm... Where do we write the letters to and why should Google care? Twitter was mentioned, but it sounds like Google only cares about the criticism being public.

Stanislao

To quote Sir Terry Pratchett - "plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.” ….sums you tubes policies up for me....

Alan Bland

Probably they're misunderstanding "live" in "live fire" as "live stream", a lot of live streams have "live" in the title. See Iraqveteran8888's recent video.

Greg Stachowski

I'm terribly sorry you're experiencing this as a producer of content. I'm just commenting to say that I'm with you guys, esp Mark all the way through. Please don't stop.

HumidNut

It's hardly just gun channels that would be affected if this is true. Almost any action movie trailer or clip would be in violation.

Chris Hamlin

Seems to me like someone(s) who knows little to nothing about guns, especially old historical guns made the decision on this back at YouTube. They don't understand that was a magazine and that is how it is loaded and that the gun in question is legal and is supposed to be that way. They think you are showing how to make some kind of attachment disk thing for the top of a gun that makes it a machine gun with a bunch of bullets. They don't understand that is an original magazine for the gun and how it is loaded.

Perhaps an old fashioned letter writing campaign politely asking Youtube to provide details on what policy exactly was violated?

Matisse Enzer

Fwiw, I also think audio is one of the ways they target shooting videos.

TheOlsonOutfit

Doc53 has a point. We don’t own YouTube—and the owners of YouTube are not friends of freedom or free thinking...It’s not a just world, it’s just a world.

Robert Geyer

I realize this is less than ideal, but you could divide each video into two channels. A monetized strictly history one and the other demonetized channel showing Mae load, fire and disassemble the firearm. The other alternative is to put the the second video on a separate website. That would keep the "inappropriate" material off YouTube. This is giving in to the snowflakes, but I feel it is more important to keep your work online and profitable.

Doc53

Always thought that movie prophetic.

General Jack Ripper

I'm not normally the litigious type, but it would seem like you might have grounds (with others) for a class action type of lawsuit against YT for "loss of income".

James Caldwell

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while you are in this "double secret probation" period, you are not monetized and if YT rescinds said "probation", they do not make up $$$ for what you lost during that period?

James Caldwell

dumbing down and thinking like one of those YT "reviewers"...I think loading the magazine might the issue, since it might look like "assembling" (parts of) the gun...

_NL_

I just learned of this word a couple of days ago: hoplophobia. It accurately describes the motivations behind YouTube's policies. Really, it is just that simple. What I think got you noticed is the number of views the video has. More views = more likely one of YouTube's snowflakes see it, and they go straight for the pearls. I am pretty certain that number of subscribers of the channel also plays a role is how much scrutiny the channel will receive. Mark has a much narrower following than C&Rsenal. I bet that he could put up a video on his own channel on how to make a homemade machine gun and it would last for months until the view threshold was met, and then, "Dear Karl Marx! Bring out the biggest ban hammer we have, and a fresh set of pearls because these are all clutched out". The Twitter angle is not so much for you to lodge protests, but for you to direct your viewers to. They pulled a stunt like this on Bloke on the Range a while back, and it was only reversed due to public outcry via Twitter. YouTube also learned by directly censoring a channel like what they did to BoTR would generate more protest than demonetizing.

Ron Johnson

Wish I could do more, please keep up the great work on this channel!

Christopher G Way

I think it might be the use of the loading tool for the lewis's mag that made it an issue for YouTube. Off the top of my head it's the only one or one of a few that has been shown in use.

Bryan Deneen

I think that the only way that the right and Just and good and moral thing happen in the world around us is we need to just abandon you too. Maybe there was no option two years ago but there certainly is now. Including gun streamer float prayed patriotic self and full 30 eventually I hope. Even just having ones own website. I hope Gunstreamwr doesn’t delete my non-gun video. Deny them revenue and I KNOW that people will follow you off of youtube.

Tyler

Auto-sensors of gunshot audio? Do we need to overdub all gunshots with the sound of. . .I dunno. . . quacking ducks now? I'm trying to imagine the sound of a "Quaxim 08/15". . . This is TRULY obnoxious as your show is not just a little historical, or partially historical - - -you guys are ENTIRELY historical. Bloke and Chap got harassed some time back because they embedded a link to a vendor selling a brass cartridge conversion unit for a paper cartridge M1866 French Chassepot rifle. Having rolled for and shot the real thing, it was about as nonsensical to me as calling an obsidian arrowhead the pinnacle of modern domestic terror devices. Yeah, they're off the rails ad could do with an organized yanking of chain.

Erik

Is Vimeo, Metacafe, daily motion etc... an option? I see vimeo has monetization and shows up in video search results. Perhaps in the interim this would be a path to try?

djamesthree

And its made even harder when Youtube gives the content creators virtually 0 tools to combat stuff like this. I mean how is Othias supposed to convice them to not remove the video if he is only allowed like 20 characters to respond with, and has no access to anything like an E-mail?

David Falbo

If the goal is to get no more than 10 or 20 thousand views per primer at the absolute most, that will work out well.

J.Walton

As someone who appreciates history, it’s obvious you all put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the research and prep for the product we get to enjoy. As a firearms enthusiast, I’ve gained an appreciation for the skill, foresight and perseverance of the people who designed, developed and built these weapons, an appreciation I never would have had without your channel. I can only hope you’ll eventually get through to someone at YouTube who’ll appreciate your channel for its historical value, not simply see it as “another evil gun show.” P.S......Anvil rocks!!!!!

Eric Rion

None of these alternative outlets bring in new eyes.

J.Walton

Don't let the man get you down!

nick G

I really wonder if you were mass reported and got a lazy reviewer.

J.Walton

This really feels like somebody who might have a beef with you is weaponizing the YT reporting system

Archaic

Be aware there's an institutional reluctance to admit a mistake. They will not willingly share information, because sharing information would lead to more disputation, which would not be convenient. This is the nature of the beast here. I wish I could offer more advice, but avoiding any reaction that could be construed as "defensive" would be a good start.

Randall Vanderende

Side note, I love the new labeling on the wooden training gun at the beginning of the video. It's possibly the only good thing to come out of this debacle

Sean Norton

It’s certainly hard to play by the rules when they won’t tell you what they are, and particularly when they just make them up as they go along. Hang in there.

John Klear

So I see this as an ugly confluence of (1) Youtube having some pretty vague guidelines that it applies in an arbitrary way and (2) Youtube not being willing to provide any explanation because it's applying vague guidelines in arbitrary ways. I guess there's some consolation in Youtube being so inconsistent that it's unlikely to remove all of your content at once, but if these issues start to result in strikes that's very cold comfort. I get it that Youtube is dominating video distribution by virtue of its network effect, but it seems like it's time to have a backup plan--not that I know what that would be.

Leonard Heinz

Just use Gun Streamer

Tyler

This is so frustrating! I will continue supporting the best I can. History channels are a tool to teach the past. YouTube is treating it like a weapon of propaganda. Continue fighting the good fight.

Terry Rindal Jr

Floatplane is good for established channels but since it has no discovery or recommendations system it doesn’t seem good for growing a channel.

BrianP

...Some of the political channels have been successful when they use lawyers. I'm not saying you should (I think splitting off Anvil to another channel is the right move at first) but if your pockets are deep enough or you can get someone to take it on pro-bono... It's a plan B.

Steven Vanosdall

The gun didn't shoot before they did stuff to the big circle thing. After it was able to be shot. They must be showing how to make a gun! /s

Saoirse

Sorry, good luck to you guys.

Dan G.

Sorry as well. What a kick in the pants. Let us know if you find there is anything more we here out in the cheap seats can do

Curtis Carroll

I know you are not wanting to move to other platforms but, given the latest revelation, Ian put a video a few days ago about “Floatplane” which combines the YouTube like video set up with Patreon like subscription. It may be worth looking into.

Lee Harri

Ultimately that’s their goal and not just for firearms channels. Anything that is not “brand safe” so they can sell ads, or can generate them enough revenue to justify its hosting costs will be gone.

BrianP

Im sorry I cant do anymore then this, good luck and I hope youtube fails eventually because of stuff like this

Chris Olson

I seriously think it was the beginning showing the loading procedure of the pan magazine. It involved a “tool” and demonstrated how to “assemble a gun part”. Incredibly stupid but that’s what YouTube does.

BrianP

Good luck guys.

Robert Borger

I feel like it won't be practial to have a firearms channel on youtube in a few years if this keeps up Also if Youtube thinks this is too violent or dangerous they shouldn't be showing adds for movies like 1917 before videos. Its seems a tad bit hipocrytical.

David Falbo

This entire issue makes no sense. Other than that, I've got nothing...

Jason

I hate when I'm right about this kind of stuff

Sean Norton

Censorship is the worst. Freakin fascists.

Eric Elcock

Man, and I thought the movie Demolition Man was a fantastical prediction for the future. But if showcasing the history of rifles that are older than my grandparents is crossing the line, geez.

Devyn Pritchett

Both troubling and sad that this is happening. Will continue to support you guys any way possible, keep up the great work!

Jonathan Irvine
