De-mon Update

So Mae and I tried recording a bit on just what the heck is happening and it got way too long. I may be able to salvage it as a Patron-Only but here is the short run down:

1. Thank you all for taking it on yourselves to preserve the show.

2. We still want to stay monetized so we can gain more viewers due to how YouTube handles non-monetized channels.

3. We want to avoid trialing a bunch of poorly fitted platforms for a variety of reasons.

4. As soon as we know why, or manage to fix the situation we'll update everyone.

5. Anvil will move to its own channel. We do believe it can be monetized under the rules as listed, but it will be less confusing to argue the two shows individually with YT.

In the meantime, I've mostly beaten my cold and I'm desperately trying to make the deadline for the next episode. So I am going back to my script work.

Thanks again and we love you!

Comments

Sorry it took me so long to sign up for patreon I'm a habitual procrastinator.

I must admit I commented on a photo of Mae on Facebook, in period dress, artfully posed with something made of steel and wood, well photographed...I couldn't come up with anything better at the time than "gun porn" (like that, qualified in quotes...brain fart...total loss of anything like eloquence lol). C&Rsenal is damn well produced, audio, graphics, episode format, writing etc etc.

Paul Bonvini

Point well made and well taken. My maternal grandfather was the first Italian to be allowed to work in city hall in Mt Vernon NY back in the early 1900s(court stenographer). Before the Italians, the Irish might as well have been ginger haired dogs.

Paul Bonvini

I'm here for the gun porn. And for Mae, Oh man, when Mae is going full rock&roll with the Chauchat, I can barely contain myself! Love you, Mae!

James Cobb

If a bunch of your friends look at you and say, "dude that's not cool," then you have some shitty friends.

General Jack Ripper

Yeah, well I thought it was funny. Especially given what we learned about google and it's internal policies during the James Damore debacle. You guys need to read more.

General Jack Ripper

From conversations with a broadly conservative friend who works at Google (though not for anything closely related to YouTube), my impression is that most Google employees are somewhere noticeably left of center (although how far varies substantially), but that knee-jerk reaction to potentially advertiser-unfriendly "controversy" is the driving force here. The political views of the people who work there do shape how vague policies get interpreted, and probably also what statements of outrage register as "developing controversy; better get on top of it before it spooks the advertisers" vs. "some lunatic is making statements that are obviously crazy; I can't imagine they'll get enough traction that we need to pay attention to it." (Not to mention that leftists are more likely to be *aware* of things that are generating outrage in obscure segments of the left than things that are generating outrage in obscure segments of the right.) But it's not as straightforward as "Google is run by leftists, and so they're on a quest to censor the right."

Christopher James Henry

In origin, it's not so much "Polish" specifically, as it is "that group of people who arrived comparatively recently in large numbers as immigrants, are competing with us for industrial jobs, and have strong foreign accents to the extent that they can speak English at all" + the tendency of both stereotypes and the jokes based on them to stick around well past the point at which the conditions that spawned them no longer apply. A lot of "dumb pollack" jokes, "dumb paddy" jokes, and "dumb swede" jokes (and yes, that latter is/was a thing, in parts of the midwest where lots of Swedes settled in the 1800s) are identical, apart from the accent imitated.

Christopher James Henry

One nostril being blocked is actually normal, as long as it which nostril it is cycles back and forth over the course of the day. If both nostrils are blocked, or if the same nostril stays blocked, that's another matter.

Christopher James Henry

I'm not sure if you already had them out for other reasons, but Anvil #06, 39, and 61 are gone.

Archaic

At the end of the day, Google is a huger corporation and every channel they demonotize is more money in their pockets. Its not about politics as much as its a blatant cash grab.

Archaic

You know, I'm old and wise enough now that when a bunch of my friends look at me and say "dude, thats not cool" that maybe, just maybe, I might be in the wrong. I don't envy some poor kid that just got out of school and has to work for YouTube for $14 an hour deleting animal cruelty and kiddy porn videos all day. I'm certainly not going to bag on them for a decision that was obviously decreed by some lawyer from corporate.

Archaic

I never understood how "polish" in jokes equaled stupid(Google the history of ethnic humor, anyone? lol) I'm italian/american...make all the mafia wisecracks, or WOP or guinea jokes you want...but make jokes, don't just point and say "There's an olive skinned italian, eewww!" and think that's humor.

Paul Bonvini

Who started it, with feeble, supposed humor, which was clearly "political"? Look in the mirror. Blaming one group or another, as if those groups actually exist as monoliths, is the problem. Pointing out the fallacy of labeling the "owners" of Youtube "liberals" is not political, it's rational. All I want are facts, plus well informed opinion, not stereotypes from either side. I've voted for all political stripes over the decades, I don't follow any political dogma. I try my best to understand everything and everyone individually, not by "labels". I came to C&Rsenal (and by extension, Mark Novak) and to Forgotten Weapons because these folks are sharing knowledge, skills, experience, and an enthusiastic respect and joy in acquiring and sharing all of the above...all without coloring anything with personal or political or socioeconomic etc etc attacks or commentary. I expect the rest of the crowd here to follow the creators' lead. Politics should be called out for being what it is. The ridiculous should be ridiculed. I'm here to learn stuff. What are you here for?

Paul Bonvini

$3/month heading your way from Sweden. Chin up, chest out and keep producing the shows we love to watch! :)

Tobias Jonsson

Saw about the issues you're having so i figured this was a good a time as any to back you directly. Keep up the great work, your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Mats von Dolwitz SA6MVD

Geeze, Paul, do you have to make *every* post political? I joined this channel so I would not have to put up with blowhard propagandery, yet here it is, post after post. Mark, make it stop!!

James Cobb

<3

Flynn M

So, in your world, are polish jokes OK?

James Cobb

We'll migrate it to the new channel

C&Rsenal

I hope you are right. I would be very happy to be proven wrong.

Sean Norton

Perhaps. My impression so far is a combination of poor automation and Indian tech support.

C&Rsenal

I'm as anti PC as it gets. I saw it coming in the late 70's and early 80's. You don't understand that what you see as humor just ain't humor. Try coming up with a joke, a story, a punchline...my sense of humor is pretty twisted at times, but idiotic caricatures hardly count as humor. Pointing at someone and saying "Eewwww" is not humor. The opposite of PC is not "anything goes, including just being pointlessly, shallowly critical".

Paul Bonvini

You all are the only folks doing an in depth history of firearms history and how it has shaped human history. Keep up the great work. Special thanks to Mae, it looks like a lot of fun shooting day after day however, getting the right shots on video is hard work. She reminds me of my daughter's who are quite good marksman in their own right.

Robert J Rank

Who said "liberals" own Youtube? Boardrooms tend not to be filled with "liberals". Investor conferences tend not to be filled with "liberals". The nonsense of limiting access to or distribution of firearms related content(among others) is likely a reaction to the noisy, hypersensitive segment of what one might call "the left", the "pc crowd" which seems to want a "risk free", offense free", "controversy free" world...which is utter nonsense and not liberal philosophically. The last 500 years of science, technology and all things intellectual are the result of properly liberal(meaning "free") exchanges of ideas, ideally without fear of restriction by other institutions (meaning churches/religions in particular, and later, secular governments). Google is investor owned, not "liberal" owned . Investors want more profits and less negative attention. While trying to appear to be "good corporate citizens" and pushing out anything they think might "pollute" the minds of viewers, they are just sanitizing their platform to make it appear as "harmless" as possible, and appealing to as many as possible. The WonderBread of video platforms??? lol

Paul Bonvini

Politically Correct bullshit is what this is. So, what next, are you going to dox me? Harass me? Hit me on the head with a bicycle lock? Look at you making this silly joke post as political as possible. By the way, I typed "nobody know" on purpose. Just say it with a Chinese accent, then you will get it.

James Cobb

Agreed, agreed, agreed. One major reason why I watch Mark, C&Rsenal and Forgotten Weapons is the lack of political bullshit. I have unsubscribed from channels when they feel the need to traffic in dumbass stereotypes, conspiracy or just plain ignorant theories about this or that. Gun owners as a group are not a political, philosophical or intellectual monolith. Stick to the facts, history, technology etc etc...that's what I'm here for, to learn, and do so with a touch of lighthearted entertainment mixed in.

Paul Bonvini

That's not humor. Nor is humor dead; confusing empty ad hominem attacks for humor is or should be dead. Two strikes so far. You are simply wrong to think that describing what you imagine is a stereotype of Google employees, a stereotype that is entirely "visual", which you apparently disapprove of, but which is irrelevant to one's value as an employee or human, is somehow "humor". Strike three. Go back and rethink what appeared rather thoughtless on your part.

Paul Bonvini

Stay strong guys. I can't help much at the moment but I feel really bad about the situation and am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Alan Hall

Total newb on Patreon, but have been enjoying your videos right from the start. Decided the least I can do is toss a monthly sawbuck your way; may it help make this crappy situation at least a bit more tenable...

Ed Bailey

It's funny how there are still a dozen ads on a demonitized channel. It's as if the Liberals who own YouTube, and it's parent company, are as greedy as they claim everyone else is. I wonder if they are paying their fare share of taxes or hiding it in loopholes like they claim everyone else is?

Tiger in man's clothing

Someone posted that they demonetized you guys on The Reloaders Network.. Signed up to support, probably should have done it earlier. I can’t say how appreciative I am of your whole team and the great historical work you do..

Sorry, I forgot that humor is dead. My bad.

James Cobb

I'm good with what ever you come up with when ever you manage to post it. In the mean time let me know if you don't get my monthly pledge for any reason. I'm in. Nough said.

gary g. davis

Seriously James Cobb, just stop and take your BS somewhere else. That kind of hands off stereotyping crap from both sides is the problem. I promise you that every person that works at Google loves their kids as much as you, worries about what to cook for dinner tonight just like you, and face the same shit every day that you do. Start trying to see humans instead of caricatures and quit bring the rest of the 2A community down.

Archaic

Dude, don't bring your political bullshit here. What does tats, hair-colour and piercings have to do with anything relevant except prejudices? And I gotta tell you, the "I don't know, nobody know(s). Just make them up as you go along." sounds like corporations in general to me. I work for Home Depot and that is how they run things, they are a pretty right wing company. The idiocy comes from chasing the bottom line, at the expense of everything else.

Bradden L Scott

Hope everything works out.

Bradden L Scott

Can you imagine HR at Google? Let's see, green hair- check .... Nose ring-Check.... Garish, poorly done color tattoo- Check... Berkinstocks-Check, "Stop global warming" shirt with burn holes- Check... Body odor-Check... 2 years into a Social Justice degree at San Francisco State-Check... Well, hell, you are hired! Let me take you to your cube. Here's your mouse and your headset, OK get to work, you slacker! What are the rules? Fuck, I don't know, nobody know. Just make them up as you go along.

James Cobb

Thats a shame, Anvil was what brought me in and its the reason I like the channel so much. I'm a lot more into craftsmanship channels then I am a history nerd, I'll hate to see Anvil go away - but I cannot imagine it surviving as an unmonetized stand alone for very long. Will YT make you guys delete all of the existing Anvil content as part of the process?

Archaic

It's a shame that you'll have to move over Anvil just to stand a chance of getting remonetised again (presuming they are the biggest "violation" of Youtube's policy). Here's hoping it will work and C&Rsenal can keep expanding its content. As a certified history nerd it's been an essential part of my tuesday for years and one of the very few places on Youtube that offers an in-depth look at the context for these weapons. While I can't unfortunately up my pledge I do hope that the many others who have done so will help to at least carry the show for the time needed. Thank you for giving us all a greater appreciation for Mausers, odd .32's and weird French design choices. Keep up being awesome, keep up shooting old gats and keep up feeding the whistle taters!

Benjamin de Groot

Anvil is the show produced by Bruno and Mark, where they shot the practical gunsmithing side of old guns and Mark gets to show off his skills as a gunsmith, a shop class teacher and his vocabulary as a former Navy man.

Benjamin de Groot

As L/Cpl Jones of Walmington on Sea Home Guard said " don't panic don't panic"

Stuart Burton

Upped my Patreon on Primer and Anvil... B4st4rds...

Michael Schumacher

Oh, Sorry Othais, I forgot about your cold. I, not being a doctor, consider a cold as a "normal" condition and not as a health problem. If one nostril is blocked, then live with it. However, I do consider the flu as a problem, and I believe the best "cure" is to dress warm (which is probably what Mae has been telling you). Also, try to avoid blowing your nose, that isn't healthy. It is much better to sneeze or to sniff. Also try to avoid decongestant medicines.

Stephen Crowsen

Thank you Othais and Mae, I found your series is a real encouragement. I really hope things come right. I guess I've missed something, but what is "Anvil"? As an aside, had you thought of starting something along the lines of Small Arms of WW2? I guess the downside is getting hold of an actual rifle or pistol is easy compared to all the other work involved in making an episode.

Stephen Crowsen

Dude, don't release anything until you get that monetization issue sorted out, that'd be a waste. We can wait.

Jack_Inthebox

I would hate to be the pessimist but in the long term I think that YouTube will eventually ban all gun related channels it is just a matter of time until they do so, I know that C&R wants to stay on YouTube but I would like to see an alternative or even a download of the productions made available.

Michael Kumba

Go to sleep.

S. Evan Howie

Keep on fighting on the YT front, we got your back.

Den

I'm here for you Man (and Woman)

John Stucchi

I just raise my patron support. Please support the channel in your own way.

Joel Getschman

I have subscribed to many YT channels which also use Patreon, but C&Rsenal and Mark's are the only Patreons I have ever joined, and done so just today after learning of the absurd demonetization. I'm a liberal gun owner who is disgusted by the de facto censoring of non-criminal information distribution, and strangulation of businesses involved. If I went Patreon on every channel I enjoy, I'd go broke. In this case the "last straw" was pure principle; I want to see the entertainment and information to keep flowing from Mae, Mark and Othais (not discounting all the dedicated behind-camera folks and others). Here's hoping YT wises up. Until then, press on with Patreon.

Paul Bonvini

Godspeed, Othais and Mae. It may feel like you're fighting against the current, but you're definitely not alone, and your raggedy army of supporters is always cheering you on every step of the way.

I am so sick and tired of Youtube de-monetizing my favorite channels. Hopefully everything works out for you guys.

David Falbo

You got this gang. Feel better.

Richard Valenzi

I‘m dealing with a cold too, so „Gute Besserung“ from Germany.

Christoph Sonder

I may just be a constant pessimist, but I'm not convinced that you will succeed in regaining monetization on YouTube. I still believe that they are simply trying to rid the platform of content that they think is "problematic", regardless of context. That being said, it was probably a good move to put Anvil on its own channel, as it seemed like they were misconstruing it as modification of or manufacturing of firearms, rather than the repair and restoration that it really is. All in all, I hope you are successful on getting monetization back on YouTube and are able to continue producing easily the best firearm history content I have ever seen on any platform.

Sean Norton

The instant I saw you guys were demonitized, I created a Patreon and subbed to you and Mark. So happy I did and so happy to support you guys. Keep it up!!!!

Sebastian Balyeat

Hope you continue to feel better! I love both anvil and primer and think given the circumstances separating the channels is the best option. This YouTube debauchery is what made me finally decide to become a patron. It frustrates the viewers as well but the exceptional content that C&Rsenal produces is worth it.

Upped my level as soon as I heard, as I’m sure many others did. You guys continue to deliver interesting, quality content and we all want you to stick around!

Coatl

Good luck with the fight!

Sean Smith

Upped my support level. Now I'm watching older episodes to help with the view count. Hope this all works out. Take care of yourselves!

george bowerman

I think moving Anvil to it’s own channel is an excellent idea!

Thilo Agthe

Glad to hear you getting that cold whooped

Warbreaker

We love you all as well
