It's been awhile. Life is hard and it gets in the way so often, but I am back again. It isn't easy to stay on top of creating when so much in the world is so awful. But I'm trying again. I am very sorry it took me so long to get back on the horse, and I wanted to give my sincerest thanks to everyone for sticking around for me to get back to it. I got some rad stuff planned over the hiatus here that will be coming soon.
For now though, here is an update on the Watchers. Partially based on the angels from the same name in biblical lore, this divine race is also known as the starborn. They fell from the heavens in an event 100 years ago in setting and have made themselves right at home as political leaders, religious figures, and cult leaders. They possess some unique abilities that put them a step above the rest such as:
- The ability to hover. A stars light only touches the earth when it chooses to, after all.
- Starskin where each mote of light on them acts as unblinking and ever watchful eyes.
- The divine gift of being able to call the stars themselves for aid.
- An immutable and unchangeable form.
- And incredible people skills!
For me, the aasimar just kind feel muddled. Their identity isn't very strong because they try to cover so many bases in standard 5e. They want to be every type of celestial and fail at being any of them for me. So, I wanted to give my take a really strong identity that didn't feel like anything I've seen done before. The core to their identity is as follow:
- Agents of alien gods with unknowable goals. More on this in the near future.
- Charismatic manipulators.
- Strong star associations.
- The ability to feel divine without relying too much on the more generic angel aesthetic. Not that there is anything wrong with it though. I just wanted something newer.
- A sense of divinity through perfection achieved through their immutable form, not having to touch the earth, and being able to see around them at all times.
And a bonus from my Fiancé: An NPC Watcher who has built his cult, but has become deranged through is time on the mortal earth. He has begun to bestow "blessings" on his followers by inviting them to his church at night and cutting himself so they can see the divine light of his blood; to perceive the truth through him. Perhaps he has begun feeding people his blood in a mockery of the Catholic tradition and strange things are happening to the populace. Or perhaps he uses the unwilling to demonstrate the difference between his divine blood and the foul muck coursing through humans.
