Full-Album Reaction Poll: September 2025

It's time for a special edition poll featuring five albums from Mixtape, Vol 3. and five albums from Mixtape, Vol. 4! Both episodes were such a blast, presented SO much intriguing variety, and allowed me to hear songs that may never be voted in otherwise.

I'm pretty curious how this poll will play out...let's mix it up this month, shall we?!

This poll will be open through Friday, August 22nd, and the winning album's episode will be posted on Monday, September 1st!

*Please remember that I'm only considering albums that contain songs I've already covered on YouTube...or, well, on a mixtape! Requests have closed for this month, but will reopen on September 10th, 2025.

Ah crap, I also missed this, definitely would have voted for one of the best melodic hardcore albums from Sweden out there Satanic Surfer's 666 Motor Inn , although the follow up, before Tomek on bass left and the music writing suffered after that, the followup Going Nowhere Fast is just as good, same guitar tones and bass tones, same technicality, great songs overall on it too. Those 2 are SS at their peak. I'll just slip something, please consider Venerea (another great swedish melocore band), one of their early mid 2000's albums, their 90's stuff is a bit generic, they were at their best in the '00s, and even in the 2010's, but nobody notices them outside those really into the genre.

Floyd Hill

Man, I do not understand the love for Lawrence Arms. Never have.

Aukai Ligairi

Hmmm I was slightly disappointed in that one. Chris’s songs were better than ever but for the first time I didn’t really dig Brendan’s.

Hobo Bastard

“Oh! Calcutta!” is a fantastic record, and is the only one I’m fine with losing to HWM. I think Mark listening on his own would turn into a bonus album episode though. I hope he wouldn’t rob us of that. But I agree it’s insane that on a bass playing channel, we haven’t gotten a full reaction to one of the best in the genre. FFTHG losing to Full Circle earlier this year was frustrating, to say the least. I’m still not over it.

PRDinPDX

I'm hoping Mark maybe gives HWM another chance on an album poll, at least. I know he's said he will take matters into his own hands and listen to one if they continue to not win lol. I haven't heard The Lawrence Arms but will be curious to listen along with the reaction. 7 Seconds and Assorted Jelly Beans also would have been cool. Wire (though I think maybe I'd like to see a full reaction to Entertainment as far as post-punk, more) (and Mark reacted to something from that I believe). Not a bad showing by HWM coming in third and a lot higher than almost everything ranked below it--but yeah.

Ray Dweck

I stand by what I said and I’m well and fine with “Oh! Calcutta!” winning but it’s flat out ridiculous that we’re 20+ album reviews in and we still haven’t gotten one HWM album, a band that, in terms of songwriting, is leagues above so many others.

PRDinPDX

Is that their self titled?

CJ LoBaido

That is it, I am changing my vote to Frenzal which would be my fourth favorite on this list! Sorry Screw 32 and Satanic 😔

Alexandre Morin

Satanic Surfers has some great bass work...would be a good one for sure.

Luke Z

Smoko, and hi vis for me pls

Aacc

Would much rather see a review of the black album from Unwritten Law. Oz Factor is awesome but a little one dimensional.

jclaeys80

There's better Frenzal albums but fuck yeah for Frenzal.

Bryan F

7 SECONDS!!!!!!

JONNY

Call Me Malcom ❤️❤️❤️

Anders Johansson

Oh man I hope 666 Motor Inn get It's chance someday soon. Tomek shreds in this album

Fábio Joly

i love assorted jelly beans!

Mia

Maybe next month. The Better Off Dead reaction is still to come.

Michael Palmes

Kind of bummed the Pipedown song I got on the first mixtape didn't make the poll. But. It only got 3 votes when I originally requested it lol, so probably for the best Let's go Larry Arms!

Burns

Honestly oz factor would be a great album to cover

Jake Ryan

I agree. Oh Calcutta! is my favorite record (by any band), but TGSET is a truly unique album to explore (especially with Mark's new approach of reading lyrics beforehand and paying more attention to the conceptual side of things).

Kirill Nauchigin

I’d vote for that.

Fuz Fuzlington

Lawrence arms songs are good on their own but but when grouped together in an album and all the themes come together, they become a magnum force. That’s why just listening to a song, here and there won’t do them as much justice. Oh Calcutta ftw!

Hobo Bastard

When do we get some Primus for a full album review?

uncle patsy

Wire would be my 2nd choice.

Matt Gerken

In a perfect world, 7 Seconds would win.

Matt Gerken

Frenzal knows why dinosaurs became extinct…

Fuz Fuzlington

I think it’s forgotten how unique Frenzal’s sound was on their first record, Coughing Up a Storm. It was still before punk became homogenised; made by stoners in Sydney listening to Screeching Weasel, Bad Religion, Slayer and RHCP. I don’t think anyone sounded anything like them. And their writing was great from the get go. I remember the first time I saw them, they opened with Sick and Tired, I was very young and had never seen anyone play slap bass. It looked bizarre. They were so tight and loud. This was before Not So Tough Now. For the record, I think Smoko is also one of their best records; so not just “when my back is wasn’t sore!”

Jon Person

Go Frenzal Go!

Nina Daggett

Crush it Larry. That said, Skeleton Coast is easily their best record. It is just so consistent, both writers are on fire, and it has the best production. Bizarrely they released it mid COVID and essentially stopped touring. A mic drop.

Jon Person

Happy Lawrence Arms is winning. One of my favourite bands - Apathy and Exhaustion on, I can basically listen to their whole discography on shuffle

Peter Del Villano

A bit heavy on the pop-punk, isn't it?

Jonathon

It’s my favorite one

Aacc

They are good!

Aacc

Not my fav album by them though. I would love exister

Aacc

Come on people, he said its time for him to do a HWM album. This is the time!!

Alejandro Carrillo

♨️💧🎵

Ray Dweck

We need ranked choice voting. Lol

Tomas

Gambling is a curse, but it can be fu-un, especially when it's Frenzal racing at 100:1 GO FRENZAL GO! 🐎

Josh

Ages well eh!!

Alexandre Morin

I was really hoping for a 2nd crack at A Wilhelm Scream - Partycrasher. I love TLA and oh Calcutta is awesome but is it a standout album for amazing bass? We might just find out!

Mac Thompson

A hidden gem. Basswise its the best one here

Ivan ignacio Larenas lolas

666 masterpiece

Deen

I know Unwritten Law's not going to make it, but I have a soft spot for it as it's got the second song I ever taught myself on guitar by ear, "Falling Down" (the first is Pennywise's "Bro Hymn"). Everything else I'd learned before then somebody taught me or I looked up tabs on the internet (which was a lot harder in the late 1990s).

Gamer's Tavern

I like this idea but gotta admit I really thought we were going to have Stranger than Fiction on this month’s poll. That’s my favorite BR album 😢

Mariana

7 Seconds is old school 👍🏻💪🏻👍🏻💪🏻

Greg Cialini

I voted 7 Seconds

Joe

Screw 32 making the poll is cool. I assume Mark dug that more then he let on in the video?

Joe

This is the first ever poll fully equipped with albums I’ve never heard before. Gonna have to do some research before I decide

Ceej Luige

Come on, Frenzal!!

Mike C.

Thank God Frenzal Rhomb and The Lawrence Arms were on that mixtape. It looks like The Lawrence Arms will win. I hope Mark hears "You Are Not My Friend" someday, though. I love that song. It's my favourite by Frenzal Rhomb and a favourite of the '90s.

Quote Unquote Sir

This is tough. I haven’t been super stoked at the options lately but this poll is full of albums I love. I wish they could have been spread out over other months so I could have voted for like 4 of these.

DavisDallas

I know that it's not likely to happen, but I think that a lot of y'all will enjoy the Call Me Malcolm album, if it wins. Especially Mark. The bass is so much fun!

Justin Paden

I think it’s arguably the best record of the 2000s and one of my five favorite records of all time.

Joe Miller

"Oh! Calcutta!” is an album that splits people down the middle. Either you think it's the greatest album from The Lawrence Arms, or you don't really enjoy it at all. I am in the latter group. I really hate how harsh it is compared to their other work. (I don't like hardcore punk, so that make sense). However, Brendan Kelly, the bass player of TLA, ranks "Oh! Calcutta!” as their best album, so there you go! https://www.vice.com/en/article/rank-your-records-the-lawrence-arms-brendan-kelly/

CM

Terrible selection

Johnny Carcinogen

I love seeing Satanic Surfers getting attention. Have their whole discography on repeat this week

Ed V.

Might do the same ultimately!

Alexandre Morin

I clicked on four albums before I realized it is not a multichoice question! Tough.

Alexandre Morin

I'm going with 7 seconds on this one. Even if it's futile. I really really like that album.

Mihael Dreo

Man, tough one.

Aaron M

I want frenzal rhomb but totally understand why Lawrence arms is in the lead

Aacc

Or Fuel for the Hate Game or No Division. But I'm voting for HWM anyway.

Bill Jago

Frenzal! Frenzal! Frenzal!

Chris M

Voted Oh Calcutta but man do I wish the option was for The Greatest Story Ever Told. So much more dynamic and varied and a true music nerd album. Hopefully someday!

Carl Williams

Too many great choices! Looks like Lawrence Arms is in the lead but I don't know their stuff that well, so I went with frenzal Rhomb who looks like they're in 2nd or 3rd right now. But also would have loved Wire, 7 Seconds, Assorted Jellybeans, Satanic Surfers, Unwritten Law, or Screw 32!

Chris J

Hear hear! I grew up on Epi/Fat bands too, but I think they are way overrepresented in the polls here. There is so much more to punk for Mark to explore!

Jonathon

Lawrence Arms 🥵🥵🥵

Adam T. Carlson

Solid choices, but I'm really getting burnt out on Epifat bands personally (and probably won't vote for them any time soon). There's so much more variety in punk and it would be nice to get other styles in the rotation

Mors Codefood

It's a good one!

DrippingPuddles

Do forever and Counting instead of a flight and a crash.

Chris Rider

No Partycrasher 😓 Lots of great options though. Hoping for Oh! Calcutta! myself

Adam Linder

Yeah or people can vote for what they want to hear

Bee Kay

Voted for Frenzal Rhomb, but Oh! Calcutta! is such a great start to finish album!

Les McLarty

If HWM loses again, it better be to TLA, and I’ll be real real bummed, but also, I get it.

PRDinPDX

I know it's got no chance of winning, but I had to vote for 7 Seconds. That one might make my list of top 10 albums.

Dustin Roberts

Some strong contenders here but i’m really hoping Frenzal Rhomb gets the vote.

Kirbie B

For the love of all that is good in this world, please consider NOT voting for another Epi/Fat band reaction. It's like watching Mark react to the same band, over and over. You know what would be a great change of pace, instead? Wire - Pink Flag, which is a MONUMENTAL and massively influential album in the history of punk, easily as consequential (perhaps more so) than Never Mind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols. Wouldn't it be more interesting to hear Mark's detailed analysis of THAT instead of another cookie-cutter pop punk band?

Jonathon

It has to be frenzal this time pals, lets vote!!! Hahaha

Alejandro Ruiz Alvarez

Oh that just ain’t fair lol. Way too many good choices. Had to go with Frenzal Rhomb this time, tho. I really wanna hear the rest of that album.

CJ LoBaido

I havent heard all of these albums but i feel frenzal Rhomb will be the most surprising

Ghettobrown

I was almost positive I’d be listening to Partycrasher with you on my birthday
