Making a change! Please read:

Patrons! This Patreon page is still brand new, and I’m so grateful for those of you already here. I’ve barely promoted this thing, and your early membership really means a lot! I hope you’ve been enjoying the content, and I have a long list of plans for it in the near future.

As it grows alongside my YouTube channel, inevitably there will be some tweaks to make, and I’ve decided to make one today that will streamline things for me. I’m doing away with single-song reactions for Patreon, and will focus on doing a FULL ALBUM each month instead! I also wanted to make Patreon somewhat of a different experience than what I do on YouTube, and this will be a fun way to explore these artists much further with a deeper dive into their work. It goes without saying that exploring a full album is the best way for me to get to know a band, which is ultimately what I’m after.

First up is Rancid’s “…And Out Come the Wolves” going up THIS FRIDAY, March 1st! These full-album reactions will be more of a “co-listening” experience with commentary kept between tracks, and a maximum of one pause per song if I need it. I want these to have more of a casual feel as we spin a full album together, and as I hear them for the first time with the usual analysis. I'll also include timestamps for each song on the album for easier navigation.

What does this mean for your membership? Well, nothing! It means that instead of getting two song reactions per month, you’ll now get a full album - start to finish. What does this mean for your prioritized requests as a Patreon member? I'm still taking them! I’d just prefer to exclusively consider your requests for YouTube, and have you guys help drive the direction of things over there instead of splitting them between YouTube and Patreon. Most all of you have been requesting things for the YouTube channel anyway, and this keeps it super easy.

My one caveat for now is that I’d like to review albums that contain songs I’ve already done on YouTube so that I have a slight bit of context going into the full album. Once I cover a song on YouTube, then that song’s respective album is free game for Patreon, and we’ll vote on them each month!

What does this mean for the single songs I’ve done here so far? Well, I’m going to trickle them out onto YouTube, starting with Cigar’s “Legacy of the 7 Plies” because it is still so frequently requested, and I’d hate to keep it behind a paywall. It just didn't make sense to me the more I thought about it. I want Patreon to be the place for lagniappe content, deeper dives, and alternative content that expands on the YouTube content I already have posted.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts, and don't hesitate to DM me with any questions.

Cheers!

MM

P.S. - I've partnered with Sweetwater.com to give away a Line 6 Helix Stomp on YouTube when I hit 75,000 subscribers - it'll be a live-stream type of thing, and I'd love for you all to be there! More on that next week! 😎

Tim Armstrong has become a self-taught expert on Roots Rock n Roll and Reggae. Obviously ska and reggae are part of the band, but you can here a lot of that early Americana Rock n Roll as well. He really explored that with his solo recordings as Tim Timebomb where he does a lot of roots covers. I think of that project as his musical education and you can often see what those experiments and experiences bring to the following Rancid album.

I've got them on the list! Another patron suggested them too. Coming sometime soon!

Oh man. Just recently I was trying to push an Otoboke Beaver song in the YouTube comments and read this thinking a whole album is even better. But now I have to find a way to get it through twice! Rancid is a great start though.
