Dang, halfway through September already? At least that means it’s almost Halloween-time! Hope you’ve all been doing well & enjoying the start of autumn. Let’s just start off by giving you folks what you came here for: An exclusive listen to the very first short Sesamoid track, “Adventricular Fibrillation”, that will score the ending credits of our pilot! Click on that thing above that looks like a video to listen to it.
As you can hear, we really wanted to have a strong start of the band’s sound, especially reflecting the theme of “starting a new adventure” with the making of the show’s pilot & the group themselves. Incorporating the songs into the show itself is going to be done in a diegetic way, instead of just spontaneous. Far-Fetched is not a musical, but the songs that Sesamoid & other characters perform will be included as part of the story itself. We also plan to release all of the songs we make under the Sesamoid name itself onto multiple listening platforms like Spotify & Bandcamp, so it seems like the band is alive & well in our real world.

Now for the juicy meat of this month’s update, we wanted to dive deep into your ear-drums by discussing all that we can about the music of Far-Fetched & the band Sesamoid themselves! There’s a lot of collaborative effort that goes into making the music for the show & we have an incredible team behind the scenes that make it happen. We usually start by figuring out in the script either the scene or theme that we want the band’s song to reflect. Then, our song composer Hunter Bass will write instrumental demos that match the tone of what we’re looking for, incorporating aspects of the character’s personalities into their playing style. For example: Since Quinn is a show-off, his drum style tends to be more excuntiated in the music for him to do his showing off. Once we settle on a demo we really like, we all call together to work on lyrics for the song that will reflect the theme of what we’re going for in it. Lyric writing tends to be easier once a solid instrumental is formed, so you have the basic flow down & just have to build the rhyme scheme off of it.

The recordings for songs are done with real instruments, none of those Fisher Price saxophones or anything, by Hunter Bass & Brett Gardner. They bring so much life into the sound of the band with how hard they go in performing & mixing the tracks. The vocals are done by the voice of Griff himself: Jacob Takanashi. He really aims to bring Griff out through his singing, since it’s his time to really express himself apart from his more aloof nature. He’s able to perfectly balance gorgeous melodic singing with angsty screaming whenever we need him to. Part of our goal overall in the songs is to bring out each character’s personality through the way they perform. I mentioned earlier how Quinn tends to be flashy & show-offish on drums, while on the opposite end Warren tends to be precise & collected with his bass playing. These elements reflect the way that the characters would actually play the music instead of just sounding stock.
The inspiration for Sesamoid’s sound comes from a lot of different bands & artists. We mainly aimed to shoot for a sound reminiscent of the hard rock / emo bands of the mid-late 2000’s, with varying levels of metal, blues & theatrical elements to make them stand-out on their own. For all of our $5 & up patrons, you’ll be able to join in our Discord Q&A, this Sunday the 19th at 7:00 PM PST. Ashley & Dave will be joined by the members of the Far-Fetched music team: Jacob Taknashi (voice of Griff), Adam Haplin (score composer), Hunter Bass (Sesamoid composer) & Brett Gardner (drums & mixing)! These boys have great insight about the process & goals that we aim to hit with the show’s music, so we heavily encourage you folks to ask them your juicy musical questions for the Q&A. Also, feel free to submit those questions ahead of time in our Discord server!
As a last little update, we want to let you guys know that we are currently heavy into the animation stage & early clean-up stage for our pilot! As Dave said on Twitter, we’re approximately 63.5% done with the production of the pilot episode. We do have a very special treat planned for your head-canals very soon, though. We’re aiming to release the finalized version of the one-minute clip that we debuted here last month to the public as a teaser on Halloween day! Beyond psyched to finally give the public a taste of what we’ve been cooking up for the show.

As always, we want to thank you guys for choosing to support the production of Far-Fetched. It really does help us immensely with the cost of everything that goes into making this show a reality. October is looking to be a VERY busy month for all of us at Far-Fetched HQ, so we’ll have a lot more to talk about in next month’s blog, as well as the fully finished teaser clip from the pilot for everyone! Hope you enjoyed the taste of the show’s music, and please remember to buckle your seatbelts before clicking off of this page. Click it AND ticket, folks.
