Patreon Restructure Update (everyone please read!!)

Hey all! Real quick, your current Patreon subscription tier/status is totally still intact and will not change (unless you cancel it). So no need to worry about being charged a different price without being aware of it. Wanted to have that be the first thing people read so that that's all addressed and no need to worry. More info further down.

That all being said, the new Patreon tiers that I've talked about in the past are now live and the Patreon restructure is officially here. I think the easiest way to lay out the changes are by listing what the old tiers were/what they provided, and then lay out the new ones and what differences there are, then getting into what this means for you all who have these now-old tiers.

Old $1 Tier:

- Early access to videos

- Access to polls (when goal was met for one to take place)

- Access to the occasional Q&A (when goal was met for one to take place)

- Updates on videos

- Patreon Discord role

Old $5 Tier:

- Name in video credits

- Everything else from $1 tier

So pretty much the old tiers were just access to everything I did on Patreon (which admittedly wasn't a lot, and was largely reliant on hitting goals for there to be additional content), with the $5 tier also including your name in the credits at the end of videos. These tiers have been "unpublished" which means that anyone who is subscribed with one of these tiers will keep their subscription at that rate, but no new memberships are available at these tiers.

New $3 Tier:

- Early access to videos

- Name in video credits

- Access to polls

- Updates on videos

- Patreon Discord role

New $6 Tier:

- Live monthly Q&A

- SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED Retrospective

- Everything else from $3 tier

New $9 Tier:

- Monthly behind-the-scenes recap (podcast-style)

- Everything else from $3 & $6 tier

The biggest change with the new tiers is that anyone at the lowest tier ($3) and up will have their name in the credits, which was the main exclusive thing at the $5 tier before. This is because there's a bit more exclusive content now for the higher two tiers.

With the new tiers being implemented, things like the goal-oriented Q&A streams and polls are gone and are now going to be more regular things. I'm thinking that for polls, there will be one every 2 or 3 videos, where I'll pick a video, then have Patrons suggest and vote on runs for a video and cover that, then I'll pick the next video or two, then again another poll (might alternate polls where they're ones that I pick the runs for and you all pick the runs for, we'll see, might be a "play by ear" thing with what runs are being covered). Everyone of all tiers will be able to participate in the polls. Q&A streams are going to change from being a goal-based thing to a more regular thing as well, with them becoming a monthly Q&A stream where we hang out and what not, same type of vibes as the previous Q&A streams but just more regular. These streams are only going to be available to people in the $6 tier and up (which is where the exclusive content begins).

In addition to the monthly Q&A being exclusive to $6+, the SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED Retrospectives (which I posted the first one of a week or two ago for everyone to preview) will be exclusive. I plan to have this be something I release one of every month. I'll also be doing a monthly behind-the-scenes recap exclusively for the $9 tier and up, which I posted a first-attempt at last week, but I'm taking notes for things to talk about in the one covering April. I'd also field questions and stuff that people have during these if there are any from people in the $9 tier. I want to also include a little additional content for the $9 tier, but haven't decided on that yet. I'm thinking of having it be a bit more "fun" content, something unrelated to what I do on the channel. Thinking something along the lines of a monthly movie commentary or something like that. Would love to hear thoughts and ideas on this though. There's a chance that I add a "mega" tier that's like $15-20 (this is something that I don't expect anyone to sign up for but I'm told by a lot of people in the ~biz~ that it's something that you need to/should do as a creator for those people who really want to support, but I just haven't thought of anything extra to provide for a tier like that so I haven't made it yet).

So that covers all the new tiers, but what will the content be like if you're sticking with your $1/$5 tier?

If you're currently at the $1 tier, your membership will be largely the same with it being a focus of text updates on videos and access to videos early. As there won't be goal-based polls or Q&A streams anymore, then those won't be offered for the $1 tier anymore. So if you're still with the $1 tier, the tier now looks like this:

$1 Tier:

- Early access to videos

- Updates on videos

- Patreon role

If you're currently in the $5 tier, your membership will be pretty much exactly the same as the current $3 tier. The live monthly Q&A and the retrospectives will be still gated behind the $6 tier and not available to the $5 tier. So if you're in the $5 tier, I'd recommend either changing your membership down to the $3 if that's all you want so you save a couple bucks a month, or if you want access to the Q&As and retrospectives, then bumping your membership up to $6 tier (that's, like, a couple hours extra content a month for one extra dollar :o).
