Speedrun Explained 45: Update 2; Speedrun Explained 46/47 Update 1

Hey all! It's been a bit since I've checked in with where everything is at right now with the channel. I apologize for the lack of updates! Tammy and I are currently in the process of moving a pretty far distance and a lot of our time has been occupied with the move, so a lot of time that I would be working on videos lately has gone to that. Overall just a lot going on with the channel as well but I'm going to try and be as transparent as possible with everything that's going on, so sorry in advance for the long update!

So first and foremost, an update on the next video which is covering Portal Out-of-Bounds. This video is hard to write for but it's coming along! It seriously is one of the more difficult videos to write for that I've covered. The difficulty mainly comes from a combination of a couple things. First, the run is super short and loaded with tech, so structuring it to be able to explain everything in time has been a bit of a challenge. I'm trying a different approach to this video though where the bulk of tech explanations are up front before the run, so the video will probably be the typical 2 minute intro, then around 10-15 minutes of tech explanation, and then the run itself with commentary over it as usual. While understanding the tech was a battle in itself, actually explaining it has proven to be even harder, especially when writing the commentary over the run itself, because the run is so fast paced.

Which speaking of, that's the second thing that makes this run so difficult to write for. It's so fast paced that everything is happening so quick, and because you're operating with portals and glitches where you're controlling a version of yourself that you cannot see, and your spatial perspective is constantly changing, it's difficult to keep track of what's going on, let alone sort it out to explain to others. But progress is being made. The script is currently sitting at a little over 7,000 words, and will probably end up being somewhere around 10,000-12,000, so we're getting there. So that's where we stand with Portal, the video is coming, progress is being made. It should be available for you all to view by the end of October. I'll try and get it to you all sooner, but there's about a week between then and now where the actual move will be taking place, so going to be offline for a few days as we get settled.

Aside from the Portal video, there are a few other projects up in the air right now in terms of timeline. First and foremost, something that's affecting the timeline for a lot of things is the fact that the BioShock 2 video hasn't even released publicly yet. This is due to some sponsor stuff that's out of my hands, and I'm just waiting to hear from them that the video can be posted. But there's been a lot of back and forth with things not being ready, so it's already been pushed back two weeks from when I originally intended to release the video. There's a chance that the video's public release might get delayed into October, which if that's the case. Depending on how things play out, there might be or might not be an additional video added to the lineup. Which speaking of, let me talk about the current lineup for upcoming videos.

The way I see it, there's two ways that everything might play out over the next couple months in terms of production. The way that's most likely to occur is the Portal video will come out in October (both on Patreon and public), then November would probably be a Fallout video or some equivalent. This is mainly in anticipation for then making and releasing the video covering Portal 2 in December. With the move and how everything's been going, I can't see myself being able to complete both the Portal and Portal 2 videos by the ends of October and November respectively. Portal 2 is just too long a run for that, and both runs are too complicated for that. I have a document of Fallout speedrun ideas, so I'll likely break that glass to be able to quickly make a video on my own without a collaborator for November. I'm able to make videos much more quickly when I'm the one doing the run since I don't have to learn the run to explain it, and there's no additional review steps with other parties, so it makes for a great way to buy time to work on a video that would probably take two months to make instead of one. Then, after the new year, we'd be starting off with a video covering the Any% run of Control since that won the most recent poll! We're getting a second dog around Christmas time and I plan to take a couple weeks of much needed vacation around then to both help out with taking care of the dog and to also relax since I'm going to need to recharge a bit after the next few months. That's all the first way of things going. The second way of things going are pretty similar in terms of Patreon releases. You'd still be getting Portal in October and Portal 2 in December, but there might not be that Fallout buffer video in the middle in November. This is because the Portal video would be releasing publicly in November, and the BioShock 2 video replacing the Portal video for an October release. We'd then be getting back to normal with the Control Any% video releasing early next year (which will likely be February). So to recap!

October - Portal (for Patrons & public) or Portal (for Patrons) & BioShock 2 (public)

November - Undetermined Fallout run (for Patrons & public) or Portal (for public)

December - Portal 2 (for Patrons & public)

Early 2023 - Control

I hope that all makes sense! Like I said, been a whirlwind over here with everything going on, personally and professionally. That's about all in terms of updates for how things are coming along and how the remainder of the year is shaping up! Oh, and one quick update on the Portal 2 video. I've reached out to the runner for the video and they're on board, and they might be someone whose content you might be familiar with...

I'll leave it at that though!! I hope you've all been staying healthy and doing your best to stay happy as well. Can't wait for this fucking move to be over so my focus can go back to 100% being on making videos. Have an above average day all :)

Oh man that's crazy! Good luck with the application and I hope you get it! Hopefully moving across the country is something that gets easier the more you do it lol

We are...but I'm gonna applying to a job on the other side of the country so we might move again!

Thank you! It's a pain and a half and makes me never want to move again lol hope you two are enjoying where you're at now :)

Thanks for the update, and good luck with the move! My spouse and I moved halfway across the US last year so I know how rough that can be.
