Choppin Science: re-creating a classic Metalheadz D&B drumloop [33-min video + sample DL]
Added 2024-12-08 10:45:51 +0000 UTCD&B breakbeat re-creation time! I've been obsessing over this old J Majik tune on Metalheadz again because it's one sick tune in many ways and pretty much embodies so well what D&B is to me.
I've always liked its intro beat which truly is like nothing else.
The drumloop is clearly Soul Pride by James Brown, which I've gone thru in earlier episodes of Chopping Science (click here to see the other episodes).
I've obviously heard it many times, but never like in that song.
Now, let's try and mutilate and see if I can get close enough to what J Majik did!

It sounds there *should* be TWO kicks (as per the next bar), but instead sounds like a kick and a reverse of the kick, or something? Almost sounds like a mistake, and the two consecutive kicks sound way more intentional.

J Majik, Source Direct, Hidden Agenda. Untouchable forever. Awesome Video Janne, I totally enjoy that and get the same smiles just listening to it.
