Making a hiphop beat using Ableton Packs against the clock!

Been meaning to go against the clock to make a beat for the longest time.

First effort is here! I actually liked this a lot.

I admit 100% I didn't realize how fast that 15 minutes would go. I did ZERO preparation, planning, scripting…none. So it came out ok, considering.

The only rule I set for myself is that I'd use Ableton Packs only, because I felt I'd need some frames for it.

Let me know if you'd like to see more; I def feel like I want to explore this avenue much more!

This was super cool, would love to see a DnB one.

Limitations definitely promote creativity! DNB with Ableton stock stuff / samples will come! 🤘🏻

I definitely enjoyed watching and would love to see more like this! I recently made a freestyle track where I challenged myself to only use Ableton stock plugins, and that restriction was great for creativity. Imposing restrictions on yourself helps you make better choices if you're like me and get a bit bogged down/indecisive with so many plugin options. I might have to try this against the clock exercise, just to see what I can do. One thing I'd really like to see is one where you made some gnarly drums and bass using only Ableton stock. I saw one production breakdown where Erosion was used to add a nice sizzle layer to the bass audio. I went looking online for the best way to gate that noise layer, and found a huge rabbit hole of ways to use Erosion in drum design. (Made before Roar was introduced, so I'm not sure if that's a game-changer.)
